Absorbine_Sr Posted December 15, 2010 Report Posted December 15, 2010 I'm very interested in the Tekton Lore. Has anyone heard these? Thoughts on powering these with solid state, specifically the McIntosh MA5100?
tyrion Posted December 15, 2010 Report Posted December 15, 2010 There is a guy on Audiocircle that is supposed to be getting a pair to compare to the Zu Omen but I don't believe they have arrived yet.
Absorbine_Sr Posted December 15, 2010 Author Report Posted December 15, 2010 Thanks, I think I saw that while searching last night. I've looked at the Omens as well but it seems the Lore might be a better SS choice at 8 ohm impedance vs. 12 for the Omen?
tyrion Posted December 15, 2010 Report Posted December 15, 2010 The Omen sounds great out of the Peachtree Nova which is a ss amp with a hybrid preamp.
Absorbine_Sr Posted December 23, 2010 Author Report Posted December 23, 2010 Spoke to Eric Alexander of Tekton today. He thinks the McIntosh will be an excellent match. And he didn't seem like a guy who was just selling speakers. So a pair have been ordered. In satin finish red.
jvlgato Posted December 23, 2010 Report Posted December 23, 2010 Know nothing about these, but congrats! Look fwd to hearing how they sound!
aardvark baguette Posted December 23, 2010 Report Posted December 23, 2010 I may actually get these. Bass w/ high efficiency intrigues me.
Dusty Chalk Posted December 24, 2010 Report Posted December 24, 2010 Pimpin', man, and I mean that in the best possible way. Those red speakers that Focal make...I really like them.
Absorbine_Sr Posted December 24, 2010 Author Report Posted December 24, 2010 Not the best pic. I'll get more when I have them.
Aura Posted December 24, 2010 Report Posted December 24, 2010 I meant to reply to your wall post on fbook but I will just let you know here - MUST hang out and hear these tekton's. FFF would be an excellent prelude I think.
crappyjones123 Posted December 24, 2010 Report Posted December 24, 2010 Hate to thread crap but the guy was a complete douche to me a few people on Diya for no reason. Well the reason was budp and Dave asked him for his patent submissions and he got bitchy. I posted in fonken threads and he pm'd me saying I should check out his stuff which was much cheaper and better. When I asked him to build a fonken he asked for $500 more than what planet10 charged and he was using mdf Compared a pair of his speakers using the same drivers with a guy who wanted to buy the Fonkens. Fonkens were doing things with the bass the tekton stuff wouldn't even come close to. Try the speakers though. Who knows , you might like the sound. Also the site doesn't say what drivers are being used...do you happen to know? 98db seems awfully high for a 10" driver in addition to a crossover which should reduce the sensitivity.

crappyjones123 Posted December 24, 2010 Report Posted December 24, 2010 the driver specs according to the manufacturer are here... Eminence - The Art and Science of Sound the driver only goes down to 100hz. fs of 97hz. it only goes up to 6khz but the tweeter is crossed over well before that i would assume. wonder how he gets anything lower than 150hz out of this thing -- cabinet doesnt look HUGE. i dont really trust manufacturer claims regarding the fr after getting burnt by fostex on a few occasions. i grow even more skeptical of his claims - "better than 30hz - 30khz frequency response." anyone care to explain how a driver that bottoms out at 100hz can go below 30hz? i really dont understand. is the cabinet doing something here?
luvdunhill Posted December 26, 2010 Report Posted December 26, 2010 Yes, cabinets do things. Heh. It's hard to explain, best to grab a sim program and play with it. Are these standard ported cabs or folded or what? Once I get back, if you could get a rough idea of the volume assuming it's nothing fancy in terms of folded or t-line I could so a sim for you. It seems plausible to me, assuming it's a simple ported design. Oh and that guy is a douche...
mypasswordis Posted December 26, 2010 Report Posted December 26, 2010 Yep that's the whole point of bass reflex, to lower the resonant frequency of the system, where fs is the resonant frequency of the driver in air/unsealed and fc is the resonant frequency in a sealed and tuned cabinet. It gets more complicated than that, read this for a basic understanding: Speaker Box Calculations I highly highly doubt it goes below 30Hz though.
NightWoundsTime Posted December 29, 2010 Report Posted December 29, 2010 Heh, CJ and others will be amused to note that I actually understood all of what he said up there, with the speaker tech nonsense. Read the Loudspeaker Design Cookbook as a teenager and did a lot of the calculations with a Parts Express catalog in front of me. This was back when I was reasonably smart, though.
crappyjones123 Posted December 29, 2010 Report Posted December 29, 2010 its all the beer you drink matt. and the cocktails. but more so the beer. jokes aside, i am not really surprised you knew that stuff. now stfu. there i said it this time.
Absorbine_Sr Posted January 13, 2011 Author Report Posted January 13, 2011 My Lore's shipped today from Utah. Should have them next Tuesday if the tracking is correct.
jvlgato Posted January 13, 2011 Report Posted January 13, 2011 Congrats! Looking forward to your impresions!
tyrion Posted September 15, 2014 Report Posted September 15, 2014 Still waiting. Actually, found this thread due to my interest in a pair of Tekton speakers. Mike, not sure whether you still have them but either way, what do you think? Anyone else have Tekton speakers? I'm considering the Mini Lore floor standers.
Dusty Chalk Posted September 15, 2014 Report Posted September 15, 2014 Lollers. Patient Threadcromancer is patient.
