Talked with him a bit, and he related this story: One night, he was playing a gig with Dave Brubeck. After the gig, Dave asked him "Roy... how come you quit playing your bass drum on such and such tune?" Roy replied "You were doing such a good job with your foot, I didn't feel I needed to!"
