Tyll Hertsens Posted November 15, 2010 Report Posted November 15, 2010 Man! Just started playing around with Drupal ... what a friggen cool tool. I really can't believe such a powerful piece of software exists for free. And it works, too. Anybody else feeling droopy? Quote
Tyll Hertsens Posted November 15, 2010 Author Report Posted November 15, 2010 Good yes, but holy crap, my head's exploding. I love steep learning curves ... but you do skin your knees and curse a lot. Quote
aardvark baguette Posted November 15, 2010 Report Posted November 15, 2010 I hate content management systems. That is all. Quote
aardvark baguette Posted November 15, 2010 Report Posted November 15, 2010 "professional" lolz But yes. Quote
Tyll Hertsens Posted November 15, 2010 Author Report Posted November 15, 2010 (edited) I hate content management systems. Why? Edit: Ahhhhh. Now I see. Don't worry, I'm digging a hole I'll need "professional" help getting out of soon enough. Edited November 15, 2010 by Tyll Hertsens Quote
aardvark baguette Posted November 15, 2010 Report Posted November 15, 2010 Why? They supposedly free up web developers by allowing other staff (who get a higher hourly rate than me) perform a portion of the updates that would otherwise be my responsibility. Then they bork everything and I haz to fix it. Quote
aardvark baguette Posted November 15, 2010 Report Posted November 15, 2010 I will admit they can be nice at times though. Quote
Tyll Hertsens Posted November 15, 2010 Author Report Posted November 15, 2010 bork Hmmm ... I wonder how much of that I do? Quote
aardvark baguette Posted November 15, 2010 Report Posted November 15, 2010 You seem like someone who is capable of dressing yourself. Nothing to worry about. Quote
aardvark baguette Posted November 15, 2010 Report Posted November 15, 2010 Oh, I forgot to add that a website I just spent about a year getting up & polished (revised > revised > revised > revised > revised) is likely going to get recreated (by me) through a pay cms software that will basically be held hostage by that software company should we decide to back out of our upcoming contract. At least its stored on their server though. Oh wait... Quote
Tyll Hertsens Posted November 15, 2010 Author Report Posted November 15, 2010 Holy Huddler, Batman! That doesn't sound good. Quote
aardvark baguette Posted November 15, 2010 Report Posted November 15, 2010 Since the organization has demonstrated to me that they don't care about money, I have every intention of performing the entire update on overtime hours. They were also given a permanent home at the top of my priority list during the whole damn thing, which I feel is unfair to the other non profits. I have no intention of giving that to them again, if it can be helped. I'll end my rant now though, I didnt mean to highjack your thread. Just got a little carried away Quote
tkam Posted November 15, 2010 Report Posted November 15, 2010 CMS's serve a useful purpose as platforms for non-technical people to easily post things to the web. Drupal is pretty cool and has more features/options then just about any other CMS so it can get complicated. Then again there's always Wordpress for those that want something simple to use, especially if you don't need all the features of Drupal. Quote

jvlgato Posted November 18, 2010 Report Posted November 18, 2010 I thought you meant this, at first. Quote
