morphsci Posted September 18, 2010 Report Posted September 18, 2010 This year my wife, Karen, will be running the Chicago marathon as a St. Jude hero again. As the flagship of the Children's Hospital Network, St. Jude is a special charity. Unlike last year however, Karen made a deal with her Facebook friends that if they met a certain monetary goal, she would run the race in a Wonder Woman costume (I was actually pushing for a bikini clad Princess Leia, since I am a man of that age). As can be seen below, they did step up. Additional, race-day photos will be forthcoming. If you would like to donate you can do it HERE
Voltron Posted September 18, 2010 Report Posted September 18, 2010 In again this year. Go Wonder Woman!
jvlgato Posted September 18, 2010 Report Posted September 18, 2010 Done! Funny about Princess Leia. We just got through the first three Star Wars last weekend with our 5 year olds, their first time. Leia now is even better than what I remembered. Good luck Wonder Woman!
boomana Posted September 20, 2010 Report Posted September 20, 2010 Nice she's doing this again. Donation sent.
morphsci Posted October 9, 2010 Author Report Posted October 9, 2010 Well we are on our way up to Chicago as the race is tomorrow. I wanted to thank everyone for their support. The weather looks good so update pictures will be forthcoming.
Augsburger Posted October 9, 2010 Report Posted October 9, 2010 Jim, what costume will you be wearing? Good luck to Wonder Woman Karen. Actually I think I saw another Wonder Woman last night while crossing Hollywood and Vine after the Phamtom Of The Opera show. Shouldn't she be resting for the race?

I'll probably just go with my avatar, as it seems to fit pretty well. You know those super heroes, always rushing around to save the world.
morphsci Posted September 24, 2011 Author Report Posted September 24, 2011 (edited) Well this is a little later than usual (the race is in two weeks from Sunday) as Karen was not even going to run the Chicago marathon due to a foot injury in the late spring. However, the rehabilitation went really well and she has been able to get her distance back up remarkably quickly. She will be running again in support of St. Jude's Children's hospital which is a special charity for us. If you would like to donate you can do so at https://waystohelp.s...ksi0Rw.facebook . Thanks and please do not feel any pressure to donate as well wishes are just as appreciated. Edit: She will not be running as Wonder Woman but only as her alter ego this year. Voltron Posted September 24, 2011 Report Posted September 24, 2011 Good luck Wonder Woman Karen! This is a great thing you do and I am honored to donate to your effort.
Voltron Posted September 27, 2011 Report Posted September 27, 2011 Edit: She will not be running as Wonder Woman but only as her alter ego this year. But we already know she's Wonder Woman.
morphsci Posted September 27, 2011 Author Report Posted September 27, 2011 She's pretty expert with that Lasso of Truth.
Voltron Posted September 27, 2011 Report Posted September 27, 2011 "Yes, yes, those are 6 new bottles in the bar!"
shellylh Posted September 28, 2011 Report Posted September 28, 2011 Good luck Wonder Woman! I am happy to donate a little.
HeadphoneAddict Posted September 28, 2011 Report Posted September 28, 2011 Good Luck Wonder Woman (or should I say Princess Leia) !
Augsburger Posted October 4, 2011 Report Posted October 4, 2011 Good luck Wonder Woman Karen! This is a great thing you do and I am honored to donate to your effort. This /\ /\ /\ X2
Voltron Posted October 11, 2011 Report Posted October 11, 2011 I hope Karen had a good run, and didn't deliver a child along the way. http://www.latimes.com/health/boostershots/la-heb-woman-pregnant-marathon-baby-20111010,0,6975516.story
morphsci Posted October 11, 2011 Author Report Posted October 11, 2011 Nope, no baby. She did better than her first marathon at 4:50:33 but not as well as her personal best last year of 4:39:07. Considering she was not even going to participate 2 months ago, I think that is pretty damn good. More importantly she raised $1478 for St. Judes. Thanks to all for your participation and support.
