forbigger Posted August 28, 2010 Report Posted August 28, 2010 "Due to designer decision the XJ03 ( as well as all the new portable products ) is available only in electric blu anodized aluminum body, with engraved graphics and silver color panels." Can anyone explain why? Why it has to be blue? Same goes to the IEM....... And Sovkiller is no longer with them.....interesting Quote
spritzer Posted August 28, 2010 Report Posted August 28, 2010 Single color is cheaper, simple as that. Personally I'd be more worried about the crap inside rather then the appearance. Ohh and it isn't sovkiller here, it's sovshiller. One of the biggest fucknuts around and the reason why we have a limited edit window... Quote
Nebby Posted August 28, 2010 Report Posted August 28, 2010 Wow, limited edit window indeed. Ran a search and a lot of his posts ended up consisting of "..." That RP1000 thread is great. Quote
spritzer Posted August 28, 2010 Report Posted August 28, 2010 Ahh reading the archives, what a great idea. Fire up the KGSS, put on the Omega 2's and read about all the drama I somehow completely missed by sticking to electrostatics. Quote
Nebby Posted August 28, 2010 Report Posted August 28, 2010 So THAT's the key to avoiding drama, a KGSS and O2's? I'll have to put that on the to-do list The $50 DAC in the Singlepower Square Wave was entertaining as well. Quote
spritzer Posted August 28, 2010 Report Posted August 28, 2010 Nah, that's just the desktop rig but I somehow floated by the whole "amp wars" without too much trouble. I guess I was too focused on buying all those electrostatics to notice the shit storm going on... Pretty much every thread where somebody opens up a RSA, Single Power or Rudistor amp is both funny and sad at the same time... Quote
guzziguy Posted August 29, 2010 Report Posted August 29, 2010 The Rudistor portable looks to be several years behind current portable amp SOA. It has the features and kind of looks like my HeadAmp AE-2. The real amusing part of this page is that at the top, Rudistor makes this statement in an attempt to differentiate this amp from other portables: "Although it shows a traditional external design under his solid magnesium body it hide ..." while down below in the proviso stating that blue is the only available customer: "Due to designer decision the XJ03 ( as well as all the new portable products ) is available only in electric blu anodized aluminum body, with engraved graphics and silver color panels." What happened to the magnesium body? Quote
Nebby Posted August 29, 2010 Report Posted August 29, 2010 I just saw the price....wow, I didn't realize that's how much it cost. Saw this old thread browsing the old threads: http://www.head-case.org/forums/headphone-amplification/4566-rudistor-xj-03-a.html Looking at the internals and the price, there seems to be a bit of a disparity there. spritzer Posted August 29, 2010 Report Posted August 29, 2010 What an oversized Cmoy with no internal charging circuit for 600$ isn't a good deal? Quote
Icarium Posted August 30, 2010 Report Posted August 30, 2010 Laf portable state of the art doesn't constantly advance really. Most releases are a rehash or a step back. Would be cool to have a cmoy thread that documents what all is a cmoy out there with internal pics. Sad thing is as expensive as this thing is I don't think it can hold a candle to all/red wine audio for most expensive cmoy Quote

Duggeh Posted August 30, 2010 Report Posted August 30, 2010 Bolted your signal bias and transformers onto that yet? Quote
spritzer Posted August 30, 2010 Report Posted August 30, 2010 I have the parts sorted but haven't found the time to assemble it yet. It will probably sound horrible but well worth it for the crazy idea alone... Quote

Pars Posted September 4, 2010 Report Posted September 4, 2010 ^ god are there some fucking douches in that thread... HF is anymore. And I can hardly understand what Sovshiller writes. Quote
spritzer Posted September 4, 2010 Report Posted September 4, 2010 I've only ever understood half of it... Quote
Beefy Posted September 4, 2010 Report Posted September 4, 2010 ^ god are there some fucking douches in that thread... HF is anymore. And I can hardly understand what Sovshiller writes. I almost said that the reason commercial amps are more popular is because DIY amp designers can't afford to pay shills to sway the masses...... but it just isn't worth it. Quote
luvdunhill Posted September 4, 2010 Report Posted September 4, 2010 I almost said that the reason commercial amps are more popular is because DIY amp designers can't afford to pay shills to sway the masses...... but it just isn't worth it. No DIY shills? Really? Other than the fact that they work for free, the only difference is they aren't usually assholes Quote
spritzer Posted September 4, 2010 Report Posted September 4, 2010 There is one more problem with DIY, it often costs less which is why it must sound worse. I've always wanted to test just how much perceived value is an effect with this stuff... Quote
Nebby Posted September 4, 2010 Report Posted September 4, 2010 Wasn't there a blind cable test where someone took radioshack rca cable and dressed it up/retermintated it to look like an audiophile job, then when tested some folks actually preferred it over the real audiophile cable? Don't remember the exact test done, but I remember something to that effect Quote
spritzer Posted September 4, 2010 Report Posted September 4, 2010 Yup, I think Edwood did that. I want to do something similar with amps but not rely on double blind. I want to expose the "mmmm pretty" bias... Quote
The Monkey Posted September 7, 2010 Report Posted September 7, 2010 My friend bought one of these, but he had problems with the headphone jack... Aside from that, the sound of this amp is outstanding. Read your welcome PM. then read it again. Quote
MASantos Posted September 15, 2010 Report Posted September 15, 2010 Wasn't there a blind cable test where someone took radioshack rca cable and dressed it up/retermintated it to look like an audiophile job, then when tested some folks actually preferred it over the real audiophile cable? Don't remember the exact test done, but I remember something to that effect This was a blind test using 3 cables, 1 from ratshak, and if I remember correctly one made of copper and another made of silver. They were all covered in a convering that wouldn't allow the person to identify the cable and using the exact same rca connector on all cables. each pair was marked with a triangle, square or circle and the person reviewing would write his opinions refering to these markings, and only a few people knew which was which. In the end few people prefered the ratchack cable I remember! Quote
