I think the LCD-2 is the right choice, and I'm recommending them because they are so envolving and fun to listen to. There are more technical headphones, but Orthodynamics are just so enjoyable, and the LCD-2 is the top tier of Orthos IMO. I will most certainly obtain a pair at some point myself.

Thanks for the advice. I've spent a few days reading about the T1's, LCD-2's, and HD800's and it seems (again, based on what I've read) that I would enjoy the LCD-2's the most. Should I also be considering the HE-5's?

I've been in denial for quite some time about purchasing a Stax setup, one of these days I'll put together a 'stat setup, and the 650's aren't going anywhere.

The D7000s are pretty fun phones, and quite a bit different than the 650s. They can also be had pretty cheap new compared to say the T1s or HD800s.

I have listened to both the HE5 and HE5LE and IMO the HE5LE is smoother, more open, and engaging. It does more things right than the HE5, at least to my ears and with jazz. Have not listened to the HE6 nor the LCD2 so I can not comment on those. Good luck.

I'm enjoying tkam's HE-5 very much.

They have great mids and lots of "treble energy" and I can see how it can be too much/fatiguing for many people.

Interestingly enough, the treble of Grado RS-1's aggravated and amplified my minor tinnitus for weeks, while I don't have any problems with the HE-5.

I'd say things that don't bore me are on what I consider to be the faster side of things

AD2000, LCD-2, W5000s (with the right amp.. not sure yours is), k1000, qualias, electrostats

Nope, actually sold off all the headphone gear shortly after I moved back at the end of march. I have recently added a pair of d7000s and a maple tree audio amp, but that's more just to have a headphone rig for when speaker listening isn't practical.

AD2000 are "love them/hate them" kind of phones. I owned them for some time and heard them in a few rigs and I disliked them every time. I posted some impressions here if you're interested. For a more lively presentation than what the HD650 offers, I would suggest either HD800, AKG K1000 or JH13. As some people mentioned, electrostatic is where it's at for full-size headphones, but that would require an amp change.

Also, I'm not sure how anyone can find Rush boring musically. I can understand some people find them annoying, but boring?

^^ I have no idea how someone who likes metal could dislike the AD2K. Metal is one of the genres it's best at! (IMO)
