Hopstretch Posted July 22, 2010 Report Posted July 22, 2010 I'm currently setting up my desktop system in South Africa and will need to run my Ayre DAC off a step-down transformer, since it couldn't be converted to 240V. On the back it says 120V, 50/60Hz, 20 W max. I have a modest 60 W compact/travel step down to hand. To those of you who actually understand this stuff, am I likely to be OK powering the DAC off that? Many thanks. Quote
naamanf Posted July 22, 2010 Report Posted July 22, 2010 Yes it should work fine with those specs. I personally am not a big fan of the travel transformers and would suggest getting a real one for prolonged use. Quote
agile_one Posted July 22, 2010 Report Posted July 22, 2010 Stretch ... I'm with naaman ... get a heavier duty converter like this 500 W Powerbright: Amazon.com: Power Bright VC500W Voltage Transformer 500 Watt Step Up/Down 110 Volt - 220 Volt: Patio, Lawn & Garden I've used these for audio gear with excellent results. n_maher Posted July 22, 2010 Report Posted July 22, 2010 Stretch, if you get the one that Gene just mentioned you could probably safely run the exstata off of it and save yourself the hassle of changing jumpers. Quote
Hopstretch Posted July 22, 2010 Author Report Posted July 22, 2010 Thanks guys. I certainly intend to get a bigger piece of iron when I can find a source down here. You don't really want to be shipping this weight class of item via FedEx! Quote

If you get stuck Stretch let me know, I'm pretty sure the unit Gene linked to could be safely re-packed in a USPS Flat Rate Medium sized box and sent to you for ~$50 (quote was $43.45 w/ delivery in 6 to 10 days).
