recstar24 Posted June 24, 2010 Report Posted June 24, 2010 Anniversary is coming up. In addition to the new car I bought her yesterday, I plan on also getting her a nikon d3000. Just wanted to know which online vendors you guys like to go with.
morphsci Posted June 24, 2010 Report Posted June 24, 2010 With camera stuff I have always stuck with B&H. They have always been great and never tried to screw me over, which I cannot say about other vendors. Not always the cheapest but to me the lack of hassle has always been worth it.
agile_one Posted June 24, 2010 Report Posted June 24, 2010 Ryan ... I've had nothing but good experience with all of these: B&H, Adorama, J&R, and Amazon. I believe Nikon is offering $50 back on D3000 kit right now.
Salt Peanuts Posted June 24, 2010 Report Posted June 24, 2010 I've been using Adorama for most of my camera stuff. The dslr itself, I bought from Amazon and everything went fine, even with needing to return the first unit.
n_maher Posted June 24, 2010 Report Posted June 24, 2010 Ryan, While not online, I'd recommend Best Buy as odd as that may sound. Their pricing is likely to be every bit as good as any of the above and I really like having a physical place to take things in the event that there is a problem, even if it just means that they have to deal with shipping it out for repairs. I bought my original D70 at BB and it got replaced with a D80 about 18mo later. I'm a firm believer in aftermarket warranties on stuff like DSLRs and have no experience with extended service plans through anyone but BB.
recstar24 Posted June 24, 2010 Author Report Posted June 24, 2010 B&h is offering a nice package with the 18-55 lens and the 55-200 lens for $500, includes a $150 instant rebate. I hope I am reading that right as it seems too good to be true. Nikon - D3000 SLR Digital Camera with 18-55mm VR & 55-200mm EDIT. 750-150= 600. Me learn math. Nate, will definitely stop by my local best buy as well.

I also purchased my D80 through them and had them price match with the lowest online price at the time. I think it is a bit hit and miss trying to do this now. They also have much better prices on service plans than other camera stores.
VPI Posted June 24, 2010 Report Posted June 24, 2010 I am lucky enough to have Adorama and B&H a couple of subway stops away but I would use them regardless. The price is typically much better than B&M and their stock is dramatically better than most places when I need a large selection. I use Best Buy when the prices are similar as I am Reward Zone Black there so it usually ends up in my favor but I actually bought the last DSLR from Amazon for a price quite a bit cheaper than anyone else had. Their prices seem to fluctuate quite a bit so you just need good timing. If you buy at Best Buy just make sure you do not buy the memory, etc. there as it is insanely overpriced compared to B&H. Now I don't understand the whole Nikon thing, but to each his own.
Dusty Chalk Posted June 24, 2010 Report Posted June 24, 2010 In addition to the new car I bought her yesterday...Jesus.
guzziguy Posted June 24, 2010 Report Posted June 24, 2010 I've had great luck buying cameras, TVs, etc. from OneCall.
jinp6301 Posted June 24, 2010 Report Posted June 24, 2010 B&H has a great selection but is usually never the cheapest price. Nikon FTW!
Voltron Posted June 24, 2010 Report Posted June 24, 2010 Now I don't understand the whole Nikon thing, but to each his own. ^This.
dsavitsk Posted June 24, 2010 Report Posted June 24, 2010 B&H is definitely my first choice (except for Tamarkin) for anything camera related. Nate, will definitely stop by my local best buy as well. Sales tax in Chicago is 10.25%. Burbs are only slightly better.
recstar24 Posted June 25, 2010 Author Report Posted June 25, 2010 Nikon - D3000 SLR Digital Camera with 18-55mm VR & - 9718 - Has a $150 instant rebate and when deed into cart, has an additional $60 off. $589.99, works for me
CarlSeibert Posted June 25, 2010 Report Posted June 25, 2010 You could call Vic Frey at Calumet. He's actually at Calumet New York. He's usually cheaper than B&H and much easier to deal with.
henryp Posted June 25, 2010 Report Posted June 25, 2010 Our thanks to everyone here who took the time to post their positive experiences. This is very gratifying and much appreciated.
blessingx Posted June 25, 2010 Report Posted June 25, 2010 Now I don't understand the whole Nikon thing, but to each his own. Easy to understand! Just like buying a Canon, but with less saccharine color output.
naamanf Posted June 25, 2010 Report Posted June 25, 2010 What's that you say? Special Head-Case pricing at B&H? Now if Nikon would just release the D400.......
luvdunhill Posted June 25, 2010 Report Posted June 25, 2010 I see what you did there... MoAT MoAT MoAT MoAT MoAT ?
