Nebby Posted July 19, 2010 Report Posted July 19, 2010 I bought the Schiit Asgard to be trendy and cool for 15 days. True story.
HeadphoneAddict Posted July 20, 2010 Report Posted July 20, 2010 Oh noes, Asr doesn't hate the Asgard yet. I'm hoping he'll bring it to the Colorado meet next month, just to hear it out of curiosity.
crappyjones123 Posted August 16, 2010 Report Posted August 16, 2010 hate to bring back a thread from death but was this another sleek audio sa 6? no chatter for a while. friends at school would like suggestions in this amps price range.
Beefy Posted August 16, 2010 Report Posted August 16, 2010 I think Yikes ended up buying and keeping one....?
Yikes Posted August 16, 2010 Report Posted August 16, 2010 Yep, drives my HE-5LE better than my Audio-gd Phoenix did. Sold my Phoenix and Pocketed the difference.
chuke Posted August 24, 2010 Report Posted August 24, 2010 Let's see if I can get through this post without a single shit pun. I was thinking of pre-ordering the Valhalla to try out with my HD600s. Then I read that they (Schiit) feel the Asgard does a great job with Sennheisers. Hmmmm, which to order....? Any thoughts? The thoughts don't have to be about amp choice either...
chuke Posted August 24, 2010 Report Posted August 24, 2010 Damn...I just saw an X-Can for about $100 less. I know...buy both.
luvdunhill Posted August 24, 2010 Report Posted August 24, 2010 Damn...I just saw an X-Can for about $100 less. I know...buy both. no, buy neither
chuke Posted August 24, 2010 Report Posted August 24, 2010 That certainly eases the decision-making process. I think I just want to buy something...maybe I'll just spend a few hundred dollars on booze.
Voltron Posted August 24, 2010 Report Posted August 24, 2010 I would buy the Schitt unheard and untested before the X-Can, but that is just me. Oh, and I would buy the booze too.
chuke Posted August 24, 2010 Report Posted August 24, 2010 I was trying to pull the trigger last night on the Valhalla but couldn't get Giggle checkout to work. I thought it was a sign... Yeah, the booze is a definite regardless...
Nebby Posted August 24, 2010 Report Posted August 24, 2010 I was thinking of buying the Valhalla a while back, but I decided to get the Crack. Slightly different, but they both have tubes!
chuke Posted August 24, 2010 Report Posted August 24, 2010 That's an interesting alternative. I never gave DIY much consideration. It sounds like it wouldn't be a difficult first-time project.
mrarroyo Posted August 24, 2010 Report Posted August 24, 2010 chuke, which X-Can model and for how much? I am one of those who enjoys the X-Can sound specially after modifying it using the PinkFloyd kit.
Dusty Chalk Posted August 24, 2010 Report Posted August 24, 2010 Yeah, another X-Can fan here -- I have the current V8.
chuke Posted August 24, 2010 Report Posted August 24, 2010 x-can v3...haven't heard back from the guy yet. $275 on audiogon with a couple 6n23p russian tubes from upscale audio. I just hate to wait for a Schiit...
mrarroyo Posted August 24, 2010 Report Posted August 24, 2010 chuke, although the V3 is probably the "most correct" sounding it was to me boring as compared with the V2. However the sound is not for all since the V2 does color the sound a bit more, say tubey/euphoric. I call it fun and engaging, it gets my feet tapping. Good luck.
chuke Posted August 25, 2010 Report Posted August 25, 2010 Thanks for the advice. I still haven't decided.
grawk Posted August 25, 2010 Report Posted August 25, 2010 Take the money you'd spend on shitty amps and shitty headphones, combine them, and get JH13s
chuke Posted August 25, 2010 Report Posted August 25, 2010 HD600s and that schiity amp will be fine for me. I maintain low expectations. My hearing sort of sucks too. Plus, I'm a homebrewer, serious cyclist, and avid drinker. That's where most of my money's spent.
screaming oranges Posted August 25, 2010 Report Posted August 25, 2010 Some people just know all the magic words...
wgb113 Posted August 25, 2010 Report Posted August 25, 2010 Good choice...maybe...takes big ones to order sound unheard. Let us know what you think.
