Rock on Fitz! You haven't had nearly the amount of time to deal with this issue as your Old Gay Mentor, so it really did take guts to step up and say this to everybody here. And I don't remember a lot of things I said over the weekend, but I certainly noticed how much more outgoing you were compared to DanJam. It's very cool that you are in a better place and can be yourself.

Nice work, Dr. Wood. :)

That's also the reason we didn't let you all in our room. We knew that once you saw our shoes and traveling accoutrement perfectly laid out that it'd be a dead giveaway. Fitz and I even made new lampshades out of Woo Audio cardboard headphone stands, and used our lanyards to make some lovely drapery tie backs. And of coarse strategically placed potpourri bowls finished everything off nicely.

If anyone else decides to come out though we may need to reserve more thread space. :D

Are you sure you guys don't want this thread in the Casino, if you're OK with it being searchable by Google, then carry on.

Speaking just for myself Ed, that's kind of the point. But I understand you're looking out for us and I appreciate that.

Dang this thread is turning out to be quite the coming-out party. I almost have to wonder who'll be next.

Fitz, I definitely caught more positive vibes off from you than at the last time we met. You're a cool dude too and I look forward to the next time we meet. We'll have to re-assemble with Justin (MPI), Scott, & Colin to re-create the drunken ramblings next time. Make it happen!

I wasn't planning to post this here until a bit later, but after seeing the amount of positive energy here I've decided to go ahead and let the cat out of the bag: I am the member Steve was referring to in the beginning of his post.

<snip...>

Now that this is out in the open, everyone can start a new wave of jokes about me and Steve sharing a room for CanJam. :P

Gee... thanks for not raping me last year...

Grawk is probably the straightest guy on here, after Jacob. And Ian. And Jin. And Colin. Alright, maybe not the straightest guy on here, that's kind of a weird superlative to have used...oh, never mind, I'll stop digging myself in...

And a great big Foz E. Bear falsetto "rah" and NTTAWWT to Fitz!

Okay, then I must be like the opposite of gay, then. Whatever that means.

Fitz, I am overjoyed that you decided to share this with us!!! It brings a tear to my eye (I am not joking, Steve is not the only sensitive one here). As Al said, it took a lot of courage to do what you did especially given the short amount of time that you have had to become comfortable with this. You wouldn't believe the number of years that I was confused. Congratulations!

Congrats to Fitz on coming out! This was the first time I met you so I didn't notice that you were more social and such than usual, but good on you and you're a great guy.

I totally (sort of but not really) called it :P

Darn, my money was on Ray being the "other person". Wrong again.

Congrats Fitz. You did seem much looser at CJ than at DanJam. I'm glad everything is becoming clearer for you. I can't wait to see you at the next fun get together.

Unlike most people, I did not realize I was gay by the time I was in my teens, and always thought I was solidly heterosexual. It wasn't until earlier this year, having been single for a few years that I finally began to notice an attraction towards other men, which caused me more than a small amount of distress at the time. It reached a point that I needed to confide in someone else, and sent Steve a message one night after I'd been up late thinking about my situation. He was nothing but supportive of helping me work through it, although at the time I wasn't entirely sure what he meant by me having good instincts in choosing to go to him for advice.

After sending that message to him and starting the initial dialogue, I quickly felt more and more comfortable with the fact that I was gay, and within days I had become certain and completely okay with it. It made me feel incredibly empowered, like a veil was lifted off my mind. Even in ways unrelated to sexuality I've felt very liberated... I'm significantly more comfortable talking openly to people even if I don't know them, no more quietly sitting off to the side all the time. Some people who've previously met me might have noticed that at CanJam; one person even directly commented on it to me.

Now that this is out in the open, everyone can start a new wave of jokes about me and Steve sharing a room for CanJam. :P

And we spent 15 hours in a car together... :palm:

Glad you feel like you can open up. You too, Steve, etc. (Just finally getting around to posting, still have 5 pages to read). I'm sure there is even more "family" in the HC family, and that's great. I know it's a ... difficult... thing to do for many.

@Fitz... you sure Steve was the first person you talked to?

Edit: Had to do it twice so Fitz would see it. It worked.
