swt61
Someone left it behind. I believe it was used as a shroud to hide his ManDate magazine.
wink
"Now if somebody can spot my way of dealing with the 10M90 sinks with only metric screws at hand... " That's what I did. I later thought I could have drilled a hole and tapped it M3 a little higher up the heatsink, but thought the loss of mounting surface on the device would be overly compromised. Kerry
Nice looking build I'm all about smaller these days so love that it fit it a 2U case.
eggil
When I test the 4686 transistors I get an unexpected reading using my DMM and only with the transistors in the middle (red arrows, and on both boards): Collector to emitter: 0.75 V On the rest of the 4686's: OL Both base-collector and collector-emitter conduct one way only as expected. Why do I get those readings only with the middle ones and not the rest? both boards? At first I thought they were damaged but its to much of a coincidence with the same ones on both boards. kevin gilmore
Those are the top output transistors, and you can't measure them in circuit that way and get reliable results.
eggil
Thanks. I figured it was because they were in circuit, but wasn't sure why.
spritzer
Measuring anything while in circuit is always a crapshoot. Way too many variables to list. While we are on the subject, the HV sounds fucking amazing!! Who stuck a subwoofer to my 007 Mk1's?
kevin gilmore
Yeah Team. Boards at the post office , will pick up tomorrow. prototypes of the multiamp, blackhole and preamp. Will be sending justin his knob tomorrow also, i had better see pictures of it mounted. Edited March 7, 2012 by kevin gilmore

eggil
No, waiting for the transformer. Will be drilling holes in the heatsink on friday. Edited March 8, 2012 by eggil
johnwmclean
eggil - I’m just curious for my own understanding, wouldn’t soldering those transistors last be preferable?
eggil
I see what you mean, but what I am doing is not that hard. I have not screwed the aluminum plate to the transistors yet.
johnwmclean
Good luck drilling, I look forward to seeing your amp eggil. Edited March 8, 2012 by johnwmclean
luvdunhill
Why two layers of angle brackets?
eggil
Actually it will be only 1. I had 2 in the picture to help me figure out where to drill the holes.
eggil
Well, drilling the heatsinks was harder than I thought! Hope didn't screw up anything. Edited March 10, 2012 by eggil

TMoney
It looks like the same guy who started this train-wreck of a thead over there is actually going forward with his build.
El_Doug
thats the same guy!? hope he at least figures out how to wire a transformer before it arrives... Edited March 11, 2012 by El_Doug
spritzer
Why are people using CMF60 resistors for the bias ballast? Doesn't anybody read the bloody spec sheets?
El_Doug
I suppose because theyre prettier, and that several companies have made it seem like the Vishay/Dale name automatically makes things better. "So what if theyre only rated for a 500v maximum? Theyre cool!!!" Why are people using CMF60 resistors for the bias ballast? Doesn't anybody read the bloody spec sheets?
spritzer
Yeah that plus people not knowing what they are doing. Vishay is basically an umbrella for everything now but they do own BC (aka Philips) so that opens up a lot of good stuff. These are the ones I use: http://www.mouser.co...XoJNmZF%2flI%3d Edited March 11, 2012 by spritzer
