RudeWolf Posted November 28, 2011 Report Posted November 28, 2011 The 'M' is hard to read, but I'm pretty sure it says "Mjölnir Audio". It sure would make sense for somebody whose middle name is Thor. I think that Thor is a common name in Iceland. The guy who fed me this: was also called Thor, 2 meters tall with long blonde hair! Great work on the faceplate, Birgir!
spritzer Posted November 28, 2011 Report Posted November 28, 2011 Very nice Birgir, I like it. Feel free to contact me if you ever decide to get rid of it This one will certainly be sold some day since I'm going to build at least four of these... Which one I'll keep I don't know but I think I've cracked how to make the smallest offboard amp possible so that one will probably win out. It will require custom PSU PCB's but I have an "in" with the designer so I'm fairly sure that can be arranged... The 'M' is hard to read, but I'm pretty sure it says "Mjölnir Audio". It sure would make sense for somebody whose middle name is Thor. Indeed.
wink Posted November 28, 2011 Report Posted November 28, 2011 Isn't Mjolnir the name of Thor's hammer?
livewire Posted November 28, 2011 Report Posted November 28, 2011 Now I'm really confused... I thought that it was supposed to read "ELECTOSTATIC" ??
kevin gilmore Posted November 28, 2011 Author Report Posted November 28, 2011 And here i thought it was "ERECTOSTATIC"
spritzer Posted November 28, 2011 Report Posted November 28, 2011 Isn't Mjolnir the name of Thor's hammer? Yup which was supposed to spark and shoot lightnings...
deepak Posted November 28, 2011 Report Posted November 28, 2011 And here i thought it was "ERECTOSTATIC" Warning if erection persists for more than 4 hours while listening to Stax please consult your physician. You might not be a candidate for Stax, and may have to switch to inferior dynamics.

ujamerstand Posted November 29, 2011 Report Posted November 29, 2011 Hey, that turned out great! Got a source for the black switch? I want to use them on my amp as well. cobra_kai Posted November 29, 2011 Report Posted November 29, 2011 Lamptron makes black anti vandal switches... you can get them at performance-pcs in the US but I'm sure they are available other places as well. Here's a link to the performance-pcs page: http://www.performance-pcs.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=60_374_375&zenid=f0c2bea51fd23006ae0e38804d7f745a
ujamerstand Posted November 29, 2011 Report Posted November 29, 2011 Thanks for that. I do know performance-pc sells them, but I was hoping for a closer alternative or something similar mouser to save on shipping.
luvdunhill Posted November 29, 2011 Report Posted November 29, 2011 Thanks for that. I do know performance-pc sells them, but I was hoping for a closer alternative or something similar mouser to save on shipping. Ship them to me and I'll forward them with your PCBs... Not sure it will save you much though.
cobra_kai Posted November 29, 2011 Report Posted November 29, 2011 (edited) Yea I know what you mean. I get my case feet from performance-pcs and it's kind of a pain to just get 1 thing from them. I just checked lamptron's distributor page and most of the vendors are small pc modding type places but newegg and amazon are also both listed. Newegg only seems to carry their fan controllers, but amazon carries lamptron as well as some other brand called mod/smart. The lamptrons are not sold by amazon but the other ones are - see here: http://www.amazon.co...+switch&x=0&y=0 Edit: I guess those are all still US, but you can check other lamptron distributors here http://www.lamptron.com/wheretobuy/ Edited November 29, 2011 by cobra_kai
ujamerstand Posted November 29, 2011 Report Posted November 29, 2011 (edited) Yeah, it'll be about the same, so no worries. Thanks for the offer though. Edit: About Amazon.com, while they carry a lot of goodies, a lot of the time they don't ship out of the US, so that's one less option for those of us in Canada. Looks like NCIX carries some lamptron products here though, but I think they only sell their fan controllers. These switches are used by a small niche of computer modders, so no wonder it's hard to find them here. Edited November 29, 2011 by ujamerstand
guzziguy Posted November 29, 2011 Report Posted November 29, 2011 It sounds like you need a PO Box in Buffalo.

RudeWolf Posted November 29, 2011 Report Posted November 29, 2011 Too bad the quality on those switches is absolute crap. I've had to replace several of them way sooner than should be necessary. Maybe they need a good vandalization once in a while to increase the lifespan?

Here's a link to the performance-pcs page: http://www.performan...e0e38804d7f745a I got mine from FrozenCPU (it's a latching unit since I'm going to run the 230VAC directly to it) but these are just cheap Chinese switches these guys repackage. You can find them on Alibaba for around 60$ for 100 units which isn't a bad deal IMO. They are pretty cheaply made but easy enough to replace should I ever need to do so. Birgir that faceplate is gorgeous! Thanks, I'm really happy with it. Especially now that I've fitted everything to it and that brilliant Headamp volume knob.
JensH Posted November 29, 2011 Report Posted November 29, 2011 The switches only seem to be rated for 24V 50mA. Fine for a PC ON/OFF button, but they should not be used for mains applications. This seems to be better suited: http://www.conrad.de...NG-BL/?ref=reco But of course, they are not black. They do have a lot of different models though. You can of course also find them on the UK version of Conrad, but I could not get the direct link to work on the UK page. http://www1.conrad-uk.com
spritzer Posted November 29, 2011 Report Posted November 29, 2011 I don't think anybody reads the spec sheets on those sites but these switches are indeed rated for 250VAC/3-5A. I own a bunch of those you linked to and if they were rated at 250VDC then they wouldn't have stood up to years of use at 230VAC...
ujamerstand Posted November 29, 2011 Report Posted November 29, 2011 Too bad the quality on those switches is absolute crap. I've had to replace several of them way sooner than should be necessary. Damn. you're talking about the momentary kind, right? Do they breakdown spectacularly?
Kerry Posted November 29, 2011 Report Posted November 29, 2011 Really nice Birgir! Now who's raising the bar Front panel back from laser engraving. Still need to do some machining on it to get the volume pot to fit but it came out ok.
JensH Posted November 29, 2011 Report Posted November 29, 2011 The 250V DC does seem to be a printing error. On the other hand, it would be very impressive, if they could handle 250V DC and 3A. Even if the peak voltage of the 250V AC is of course higher, switching 250V DC is much tougher, due to arcing. See e.g. http://www.jenningst.../acdcswtc.shtml If you look at the data sheet of a relay, e.g. this one http://www.conrad.de...214211&ref=list under "Documents and Downloads" you will find a huge difference between the DC and AC performance.
swt61 Posted November 29, 2011 Report Posted November 29, 2011 Thanks, I'm really happy with it. Especially now that I've fitted everything to it and that brilliant Headamp volume knob. Same knobs I have on the Cherrywood Tower of power. Love 'em!
