llamallama
Thanks johnwmclean, you're right, this is a single primary transformer. Will have to reorder one /w dual primaries.
johnwmclean
Thanks johnwmclean, you're right, this is a single primary transformer. Will have to reorder one /w dual primaries. No worries. Should check your line voltage, mine here fluctuates around 240V - 250V here in Sydney. The 230v spec could be a problem?
spritzer
The transformers are over spec so line fluctuation should never be a problem.
luvdunhill
The transformers are over spec so line fluctuation should never be a problem. It still can be tricky, making sure the power supply heat sinks can cope, for example, even if there is extra current capacity in the PSU. I like to plan for 10% line fluctuation. mwl168
So I received two packages today and one of them is the 2SC4686A I bought on eBay from UTSOURCE. In the photo below are two 2SC4686A, one I bought from BDENT (on the right) and one from UTSOURCE (on the left). Can anyone spot any difference or discrepancies other than the batch code? All I have is a Fluke 112 multimeter. Is there some way I can test the two to see if the eBay ones are legit? Thanks!
mypasswordis
Buying a dy294 will save you a lot of trouble, especially if you have other parts in need of measuring
DefQon
Looks legit. I have some old stock I got from a diy'er on diyaudio, bdent and a UK seller on ebay and there are some in the odd 50 bag of them that look like either of those 4686's. spritzer
Yup, get a DY294 but those do look real or very good fakes.
UFN
It's probably the same that a few of us got from another ebay-seller a while ago; genuine but very old (pre-RoHS). They look the same at least. //UFN Edited March 10, 2015 by UFN
mwl168
Thanks all for your response. I do plan on getting a DY294 in the near future.

GeorgeP
Utsource sells both real and fake parts, so it can be a bit hit and miss.
eggil
I bought a few too. we'll see how they turn out. Edited March 12, 2015 by eggil
iwik
The lsk389 is supposed to be better than the PMBFJ620. is this difference really significant. As I will have to buy the 389 from Trendsetter and with Postage to NZ will cost me $35 perTransistor. Is it really worth paying that?.ThanksLes

nopants
That's ridiculous, can you order directly from Linear?
johnwmclean
Well if ordered from Trendsetter delivered here is Australia would be $127. ... now that’s ridiculous.
nopants
Oh I was referring to ordering from Linear, you can shoot the company an email and they are perfectly willing to sell pieces in any quantity. I think it's either 6 or 8 usd a pop
iwik
Direct ordering is an option I noted from their site. Being US based I bet shipping will be a killer but worth a try.
Pars
You can order the LSK170s from diyaudio at ~$18 for a set of 8. Not sure how these typically match up; I know Spritzer said the LSJ74s were all over the place for Idss.
