Pars Posted January 11, 2015 Report Posted January 11, 2015 actually use a 12V car battery. you will find the shorts very quickly I like this approach, assuming you use stout enough leads
alwayshungry Posted January 13, 2015 Report Posted January 13, 2015 Thanks Birgir, George and Joamat. That seems to have fixed that issue.
GeorgeP Posted January 13, 2015 Report Posted January 13, 2015 Great, glad to hear! Enjoy this amazing amp.
FreeDom Posted January 17, 2015 Report Posted January 17, 2015 Hello everyone! Today found your forum! Many thanks to everyone for all that you do. Recently bought headphones SR-009. Who is looking for an amplifier. Please tell me, if you take the sound as a reference for 10 points. As far as points sounds KGSSHV? and such original amplifier from Stax 007 and 727? Thank you to all who will be able to orient.
astrostar59 Posted January 17, 2015 Report Posted January 17, 2015 Hello everyone! I think you are asking for a reference of the SQ level to a Stax 727 or 007t? I have the 009s and still have my Stax 717 which sounds better (slightly) than the 727. If my KGSShv was 10, I would say the 717 is around 7 at most. The difference isn't subtle. Across the board better.
FreeDom Posted January 17, 2015 Report Posted January 17, 2015 Thank you for your response. Just now you can buy the following amplifiers: - 007- 900 $ USD - 727 - 900 $ - Woo audio ges - 1000 $ Listen live amplifiers fails. Therefore, I ask your advice, what to buy? Electrostatics and love myself listening acoustics Quad ESL-2905, and can not do experiments and just buy KGSSHV or HBSE? Help Board?
nopants Posted January 17, 2015 Report Posted January 17, 2015 please ask these questions at headfi 1
spritzer Posted January 17, 2015 Report Posted January 17, 2015 This stuff belongs on HF. Now for something that belongs here... something new... The ever so elusive Carbon...
s_r Posted January 17, 2015 Report Posted January 17, 2015 Neat. So when's the (carbon) circlotron going to surface?
nopants Posted January 18, 2015 Report Posted January 18, 2015 I'm holding out for the 6s4a/el34 circlotron, too many of those tubes lying around
Kerry Posted January 18, 2015 Report Posted January 18, 2015 Wow. Very nice! Can't wait for your impressions once you get it running.
Laowei Posted January 18, 2015 Report Posted January 18, 2015 Parts and layout looks a lot like a KGST (KGSSHV front end) with SiC replacing the tubes. Very interested in your impressions too, Spritzer. Especially when used with SR-009s.
spritzer Posted January 18, 2015 Report Posted January 18, 2015 Parts and layout looks a lot like a KGST (KGSSHV front end) with SiC replacing the tubes. That's pretty much what it is. A KGSSHV with the last stage removed and the gain stage beefed up.
johnwmclean Posted January 18, 2015 Report Posted January 18, 2015 Way to go Birgir! I’m looking forward to impressions once you get some head time.
DefQon Posted January 20, 2015 Report Posted January 20, 2015 Things are getting smaller and smaller. Me like.
eggil Posted January 20, 2015 Report Posted January 20, 2015 When you said the gain stage beefed up, how much are we talking about?
spritzer Posted January 20, 2015 Report Posted January 20, 2015 We might run it at 20mA or even higher. Plenty of heatsinking needed....
Laowei Posted January 20, 2015 Report Posted January 20, 2015 What voltages are you experimenting with?
kevin gilmore Posted January 20, 2015 Author Report Posted January 20, 2015 should work from +/-400 to +/-550
spritzer Posted January 20, 2015 Report Posted January 20, 2015 I'll start at 400V and work from there.
insanity Posted January 21, 2015 Report Posted January 21, 2015 Really looking forward to hearing your impressions spritzer, especially in comparison with the KGST and KGSSHV. 1
spritzer Posted January 22, 2015 Report Posted January 22, 2015 I have to order some more parts in before I can finish this but I have the chassis ready. In other news, new KGSSHV boards showed up today. They've been listed on my website if anybody needs a set.
nopants Posted January 22, 2015 Report Posted January 22, 2015 Is there something about the stereo board version that's keeping you from stocking it?
