boomana Posted May 1, 2010 Report Posted May 1, 2010 I'm in full-out avoidance mode. I should be working, but I'm playing around on the Internet instead. I bumped into this article, and thought it interesting. What does your sleep position reveal about your personality? - Healthy Living on Shine I'm not much into the "this is what this means about you," and quite frankly think it's bullhooey, but I've always been curious about sleeping positions. I almost never move once I'm asleep, and can generally wake up hours later without a wrinkle on the sheets. According to this pic, I'm a starfish sleeper about 80% of the time, though my hands are often under my head or on my chest like a corpse in a coffin. The other 50% I start out in fetal position, but will wake up on my back if I do. Anyway, what are you?
Dusty Chalk Posted May 1, 2010 Report Posted May 1, 2010 (edited) Posting this before I see what it means, but I think it means I'm a "Tosser & turner": I try to start out Soldier or Starfish, sometimes Yearner if I'm having a particularly bad night (doctor told me to sleep on my side for the apnea), often wake up as a Freefaller or Yearner, sometimes Foetus, but rarely. I could never be 'log' -- cat wouldn't allow it. Cat needs to be embraced at all times. Well, not "embraced" so much as "somewhat enclosed". Oh, and get back to work. I want to see that report YESTERDAY![/boss voice] Edited May 1, 2010 by Dusty Chalk
boomana Posted May 1, 2010 Author Report Posted May 1, 2010 Cat has taken to sleeping on the top part of my pillow and kinda on my head. I had to throw him off last night. He kept trying to put his hind paws down on my left ear.
Superpredator Posted May 1, 2010 Report Posted May 1, 2010 I think I'm a mix of fetus with freefaller arm positioning, soldier, and starfish. Whatever it takes to maximize contact with the cool side of the pillow. I've found that I fall asleep faster in fetus, but sleep more deeply (with fewer wake-ups) when I start in soldier. Hard to say whether the descriptions are accurate. Maybe, what with the slight bipolar tinge and macro ADD attributes to my personality.
cetoole Posted May 1, 2010 Report Posted May 1, 2010 Freefaller, but the arms are supposed to be under the pillow and head.
swt61 Posted May 1, 2010 Report Posted May 1, 2010 Yearner, except my top leg is always fully bent at the knee, kind of like an outrigger.
robm321 Posted May 1, 2010 Report Posted May 1, 2010 I'm almost always fetus. Starfish would be compatible with falling asleep with IEMs in.
mypasswordis Posted May 1, 2010 Report Posted May 1, 2010 Standing wheelbarrow http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20090808195016AAJXF0w More seriously, all of the ones in the pic plus more, minus log. I don't even know how you would be able to rest your entire body weight on one arm. There's plenty of times I've woken up with shooting pains in my arms from being in a position which cut off circulation though.
uberburger101 Posted May 1, 2010 Report Posted May 1, 2010 Freefaller. I think. I toss and turn like crazy when I sleep though, normally only my pillow is left on the bed when I wake up in the morning.
Fitz Posted May 1, 2010 Report Posted May 1, 2010 Usually fetal position, but sometimes yearner or soldier (with hands on midsection). I also pull the sheets over my head to block out light and sound.
Cankin Posted May 1, 2010 Report Posted May 1, 2010 Mostly freefaller, fetus and another position I couldn't find from that site.
GPH Posted May 1, 2010 Report Posted May 1, 2010 Freefaller, but the arms are supposed to be under the pillow and head. +1
HeadphoneAddict Posted May 1, 2010 Report Posted May 1, 2010 I alternate between starfish and yearner, but start off sleeping like a starfish and wake up in one of the two positions. So far I haven't hurt anything, knock on wood. No wheelbarrow here...
Genetic Posted May 1, 2010 Report Posted May 1, 2010 Since I never alone my exact position is not available from the ones I had to choose.... Amicalement
Dusty Chalk Posted May 2, 2010 Report Posted May 2, 2010 Oh, and I almost forgot, I often start in "hanged man" (albeit, on the bed, not actually hanging): And no, the cat has nothing to do with that -- started long before I ever thought of having one -- although she does love the additional surface of enclosure.
episiarch Posted May 2, 2010 Report Posted May 2, 2010 Mostly Sticky Flapjack, occasional Salty Prime Minister. Oops! Wrong site. About half and half Foetus and Yearner. By their personality summaries, I'd be one of the other positions.
Salt Peanuts Posted May 2, 2010 Report Posted May 2, 2010 Starfish (though one arm is usually down) and foetus, though more Starfish.
n_maher Posted May 2, 2010 Report Posted May 2, 2010 Freefaller, but the arms are supposed to be under the pillow and head. This.
oogabooga Posted May 2, 2010 Report Posted May 2, 2010 While I try to fall asleep in 'soldier', I invariably move to 'foetus' after a few minutes, then give up and fall asleep in Colin's 'freefaller' a short while later. My chiro told me that freefaller is supposed to be pretty bad on the back, FWIW, but I can't sleep any other way.
mrarroyo Posted May 2, 2010 Report Posted May 2, 2010 Fetus here, at least for a few minutes then turn and toss back to fetus. Repeat a million times every night so I wake up feeling I just exercised.
cetoole Posted May 2, 2010 Report Posted May 2, 2010 Is that from when you were bunking with stevieo?
Dusty Chalk Posted May 2, 2010 Report Posted May 2, 2010 Story from college: I once woke up in "Freefaller" on the bathroom floor. My roommate at the time laughed at the tileprints on my face. My excuse: tequila. Got a girl's phone number that night, too, which is pretty good considering how drunk I was. Oh wait, that's right, she asked me -- must have been one of those attracted to alcoholic types. I think she dumped me when she realized I really wasn't an alcoholic.
