kevin gilmore Posted April 29, 2010 Report Posted April 29, 2010 Just got in the 4 impulse sacd titles. See you at the fair out of the cool coltrane mingus mingus mingus mingus mingus All of these have stickers that say SACD only. The stickers are wrong! The titles are all hybrids...
penger Posted April 29, 2010 Report Posted April 29, 2010 Haven't gotten mine yet, but do see that I've been charged for them. Just curious, are they pressed in Austria like the Blue Notes are? Oh and how do they sound! Hopefully they'll get the shipping right this time around... Last time they shipped it to the wrong address and I had to have it shipped from there to me. =/
deepak Posted April 29, 2010 Report Posted April 29, 2010 The mingus mingus mingus mingus mingus is supposed to be killer on 45 rpm vinyl I imagine the SACD is the same. I'd be interested to hear if John Coltrane is buried in the mix in "Coltrane" like the 45 rpm vinyl. Supposedly sounds nothing like the original Impulse vinyl.
kevin gilmore Posted April 29, 2010 Author Report Posted April 29, 2010 They are pressed in austria. Have not had time to listen today, cleaning up from other software disasters. This is very unusual, normally i drop everything for new music.

Deepak, do you mean the original original Impulse vinyl from 1962 or the Analogue Productions Impulse reissue?
deepak Posted April 29, 2010 Report Posted April 29, 2010 (edited) Deepak, do you mean the original original Impulse vinyl from 1962 or the Analogue Productions Impulse reissue? I mean Coltrane is buried in the Analogue Productions vinyl. He is right in the mix in the original 1962 Impulse! vinyl from what I have read. No one from Analogue Productions has spoke up on the issue. I don't know if they had master tapes for a lot of these AP Impulse reissues and that remains some what of an ambiguous area. aardvark baguette Posted April 29, 2010 Report Posted April 29, 2010 Havent got mine yet. Cant wait to hear them. The wait for this stuff has been agonizing.
kevin gilmore Posted April 29, 2010 Author Report Posted April 29, 2010 The mingus is fantastic. There are a couple of areas where they had a bit of trouble with the master tapes but it sounds way better than it should for something from 1963. Sweet.
jvlgato Posted April 30, 2010 Report Posted April 30, 2010 Am very interested in more impressions of these, keep it coming! Is Acoustic Sounds the place to order?
Salt Peanuts Posted April 30, 2010 Report Posted April 30, 2010 Can anyone comment on the quality of redbook layer?
aardvark baguette Posted April 30, 2010 Report Posted April 30, 2010 I ripped the Mingus last night and tried to listen, but was so exhausted I fell asleep immediately. I've got it playing on my itouch now, but with px100s as a bottleneck. I do like what I'm hearing though
