zippy2001
Who's going to support their local record store on "Record Store Day"? http://www.recordstoreday.com/Home It looks like there will be a lot of new releases and exclusives sold on Record Store Day (RSD). And some stores will have quite a few special events. Amoeba in Hollywood is giving away 250 wristbands to see Smashing Pumpkins perform on RSD if you preorder their boxset. Slash will be signing his new album. Salzer's in Ventura will be having some bands play and Coheed & Cambria will be doing a signing. Looks like quite a bit of good fun. Asr
Have never heard of Record Store Day before, thanks for the info! I suspect I'll be doing a lot of music buying on Saturday. Haven't been to a music store in ages so it should be fun.

tyrion
I first heard about this last year. I will be returning to Radioactive Records in Fort Lauderdale this year.
Voltron
I've gone out for RSD a few times. It depends on the store whether it feels just like any other day at the record store, but sometimes it is fun. Thanks for the list, Matt, there are a few things to scope out on there. I'd have to agree with this Around SoCal, Amoeba or Salzers should be good fun. I think I'll go to Salzers because it's closer to me, and I think Amoeba will be a bit crowded. shellylh
Will be heading over to Cactus Music today for sure!
tyrion
I feel a little guilty. I just bought 62 records from a friend for $100. Half of them are just about brand new 180 gram vinyl that would sell opat Acoustic Sounds for $25 to $50 each.
NightWoundsTime
Good stuff Mike! I swung by Vinyl Fever and found that the Modest Mouse album I went for didn't actually make it in time for today. I did get the new Dark Side of the Moon covered by The Flaming Lips etc. on seafoam green vinyl. Also got The Soft Pack's debut album on 6 7" records, didn't know much about them but it's a cool package, and I picked up singles by Drive-By Truckers, Sharon Jones, and Built to Spill. Add in the Bjork Surrounded box set that they had on sale, and it's not a bad haul.
deepak
Nice haul Mike. Picked up the rest of the MFSL vinyl and Classic Records releases I wanted online (Megadeth Countdown to Extinction, 2 Cowboy Junkies, Allmans Idlewild South) plus the Flaming Lips/Stardeath DSOTM cover clear vinyl from their website. Rough night last night otherwise I would have tried to have got some of the in store only releases, oh well always next year. If anyone has an extra Lennon Singles bag they want to sell send me a PM Edited April 17, 2010 by deepak
shellylh
I went by the local record store today. Saturdays are usual busy there because of the free live music and St. Arnold beer but today was especially crowded. Hopefully them sold some music well. Voltron
I'll take those Judas records off your hands, Mike, if they make you feel bad. 13 records, 8 CDs, 1 used box set of Simpsons season 20 (for my son), a few songs of the free concert by Jonsi (Sigur Ros lead singer/guitarist), and hundreds of people later, I have survived RSD '10. Amoeba was swamped and the concert was going when we got there so it was jammed with people just standing and listening and not shopping, or getting out of my way so I could. It was fun hunting around for the in-store specials. No Lennon single bag for me, but I did get the last copies of each of the Joe Strummer records so that was excellent. I'll post the list in awhile. Still unwrapping and have listened to a couple things so far. Good times, but I just realized I am way overdue for a cocktail. zippy2001
I tried to get to Salzers when they opened at 10:00am, but got there a few minutes late and missed out on the John Lennon Singles Bag I guess I'll have to try eBay. I did pickup The Jimi Hendrix Experience - Live at Clark University, Devo - Duty Now for the Future, Elvis Costello and the Attractions - Live at Hollywood High, Joan Baez - Joan Baez. episiarch
Would have gone, if we had a real record store anywhere near here. There's just HMV in our area, sadly.
Asr
None of the event day-exclusive items really interested me (mostly just collectors' items I take it?) but between the two stores I stopped at, I picked up a total of 40 used CDs (also had some event-day coupons to offset the cost). I also missed scoring any freebies. Some of the titles I bought: Amon Amarth - Once Sent from the Golden Hall Ani DiFranco - Knuckle Down Circa Survive - On Letting Go Fourplay - Elixir Gamma Ray - Land of the Free Helloween - Keeper of the Seven Keys: The Legacy Joni Mitchell - Clouds Meshuggah - Obzen Muse - Origin of Symmetry Neutral Milk Hotel - In The Aeroplane Over The Sea Kate Bush - Aerial Sarah Fimm - Nexus Spoon - Kill the Moonlight The Black Keys - Attack and Release The XX - XX There were a lot of people scouring the vinyl at one of the stores I went to, which was kinda cool to see.
