jpelg Posted March 6, 2010 Report Posted March 6, 2010 With my headphone amp also being a decent preamp, I have some interest in active monitors for when speaker listening is an option. I know that there is a fairly strong Quad active fanbase around here. I came across the Tannoy Reveal line: Seems this series has a bunch of options, ranging from passive, to active, to active w/digital inputs, all basically differing in driver size (5, 6, 8"). Anyone heard any version of these? Quote
Duggeh Posted March 6, 2010 Report Posted March 6, 2010 Friend of mine at university had a set. I thought them a little lean in the bass for my liking but it could just be the way he had them set up. Quote
mulveling Posted March 6, 2010 Report Posted March 6, 2010 I actually have no experience with the studio lines from Tannoy My dealer Pete (whom I absolutely trust) does, though he does not carry the studio gear. Even if Tannoy ends up being your bag, it really is all about the Dual-Concentric units, which starts at the Precision line (just above the Reveals). Pete looooves those Precisions. They even took an 8" DC driver from the studio line and built a custom home speaker around it. DC is really Tannoy's focus. To be honest, if I were not going with a DC unit I'd be looking at other brands! Quote
skullguise Posted March 7, 2010 Report Posted March 7, 2010 What about the Elipse monitors, with the separate super-tweeter? I had read a bit about them, looked interesting. They have some processing capability IIRC, to correct for room anomalies...... Quote
