For those who liked the SA5k, how is the K701; part b: PPX3 pairing?

Hi everyone,

I don't know if there is anyone around here who likes SA5k over the HD650, but if there is, I was wondering if I could get some tips. :P So basically, I currently own the HD650 and the SA5k. My mom uses the HD650 back at home, and my parents want me to give my SA5k to my cousin as a gift (strange, I know. Don't ask.). So that leaves me with no headphone at college pretty soon. I've never heard the K701, but I've begun considering it. I personally don't like the HD650's dark signature and the "veil" (ya, I notice it) doesn't work too well with my most of my music. (It works great with classical, but not so great with industrial, rock such as Tool, pop and electronic stuff.) Yeah, it's probably weird, but I think the SA5k sounds rather good. I'm planning on buying a PPX3 in December since I got a chance to listen to one of my friend's with my SA5k and HD650, and it was great. Anyways, I was wondering if somone who likes the brutal speed and tight punch of the SA5k and has heard the K701 could give me some insight. Hmm, to rebuy the SA5k or to buy the K701. Blah.

On a totally off topic note, I listened to the AD2000 over at my friend's room today. Gah, I love it. ;D

Thanks and cheers,

Nanoha

I like both the 701's and the 5000's. I prefer the stock 701's to the stock 5000's. The 701's are just ever so slightly warmer than the 5000's. More specifically the 701's lack the slight high frequency distortion that the 5000's exhibit. This high frequency distortion is why the 5000's are generally perceived of as being bright.

Both are wonderfully detailed and transparent headphones, with the nod going to the K701?s.
