Smaller selections, but the B&W Society of Sound (on their site) and Reference Recordings (thru HDTracks or HRx on DVD as Al mentioned) has some great hi-res Classical.

HD Tracks and Linn Records sites. HRX is not for download but those are some amazing hi-rez recordings that can be ordered online.

Easily fixed, buy the HRX recordings and have them sent to me; I will send you hi-rez downloads eventually :P

Get the Boston Symphony Orchestra releases on high res available at their site. Great recordings, the Daphnis et Chloe was awarded a Grammy for the best orchestral performance. The Mahler and Brahms are very nice too.

Thanks guys. Long story short: a guy is coming to visit (mother-in-law's friend) who recently told my sister-in-law that digital music files can't sound as good as CDs and that Bose is by far the best audio equipment. I'm going to blast hi rez at him until it blows his damn fool head off.

Don't start in on vinyl, now, either...

before you go buy lossless music, go buy the Heifetz Collection, the Karajan Gold Collection, and the Kronos Quartet box. then go buy the high rez stuff.

Color me interested... Any links you can provide so I don't pick up the wrong stuff?

There are so many classical masterworks and so many recordings of them, it's hard to pick just one (or even a few). This is doubly compounded that neither HDTracks or Linn Records offer much in the way of some of the more well-known recordings, let alone at hi-res. This one might be worth a download tho: https://www.hdtracks.com/index.php?file=catalogdetail&valbum_code=HD090368023469

And if you have a particular favorite classical composer that can help to narrow down the field.

There's also this one: :P

it appears that the Heifetz Collection and the Karajan Gold Collectoin are out of print (they were 65 and 30 CDs, respectively, i'm sure there wasn't much of a market). i got both at a used CD place for a couple dollars a disc. the Kronos Quartet 25 Years box is still around.

I've found the first 46 cds of the Heifetz Collection on what.cd and it's seeded except for 3-4 of the albums, which would maybe take some patience to get, but there are 10-20 snatches on each cd so the copies are out there.

The complete Karajan Gold collection is on what.cd and waffle.fm

Also there are about 25 cds of the Heifetz collection on Demonoid, there's a gap from 6-10 but it otherwise goes all the way to 32 and looks like is being added to regularly

the above mentioned are FLAC,

other than that it's also prbly worth mentioning that the complete Heifetz collection is available on Demonoid but in mp3 192CBR.
