Salt Peanuts Posted February 10, 2010 Report Posted February 10, 2010 I'm not sure if anyone here watches/ed Discovery Channel's Deadliest Catch, but Phil Harris, the captain of Cornelia Marie the ship that has been prominently featured on the show, has passed away as a result of a stroke. He will me missed. Deadliest Catch : Discovery Channel Quote
Pars Posted February 10, 2010 Report Posted February 10, 2010 Yep. He was one of my favorites to watch on the show... funny guy. Quote
n_maher Posted February 10, 2010 Report Posted February 10, 2010 While sad this was hardly unexpected. Quote
The Monkey Posted February 10, 2010 Report Posted February 10, 2010 Ah, that's a shame. Not exactly an easy life. Quote
ronnielee54 Posted February 10, 2010 Report Posted February 10, 2010 While sad this was hardly unexpected. Agree with that. Suprised any of them live as long as he did with their lifestyles. Quote
HeadphoneAddict Posted February 10, 2010 Report Posted February 10, 2010 We were sad here too. My 12 year old son and I enjoy watching TV together, and that was one of his favorite shows. I assume the blood thinners from the Pulmonary Embolism put him at risk for the stroke (if it was a brain bleed and not a clot). Quote
swt61 Posted February 11, 2010 Report Posted February 11, 2010 I met Phil once at the UniSea Inn bar in Dutch Harbor. This was long before he was on the TV show ('92ish). He was really wanting to see the ship I fished on (F/T Ocean Rover), which was at that time the most modern, luxurious and best producing factory trawler in the Bering Sea. So anyway he came on board for a tour and regaled us with stories of crab fishing. Needless to say it was a lot of fun watching him on Deadliest Catch later. RIP Phil Quote
Pars Posted February 11, 2010 Report Posted February 11, 2010 Ah, that's a shame. Not exactly an easy life. Watching the show last year with the other Capt (Stig?) thinking he was having a heart attack or something (and chain smoking the whole time), I would say I agree that it wasn't exactly surprising. Still a shame though. Quote
