Girardian Posted February 9, 2010 Report Posted February 9, 2010 Any other GMA users here? I own Callistos (2nd system) and Calypsos (main system). If anyone here has questions about GMA speakers, drop me a line. I'm in the SF Bay Area and they have (I believe) a dealer now in SF.

luvdunhill Posted February 9, 2010 Report Posted February 9, 2010 All all GMA speakers still 1st order / phase coherent designs, or have they moved away from that design philosophy?
tkam Posted February 9, 2010 Report Posted February 9, 2010 Nice speakers! I owned a pair of GMA Europa's a few years ago.
jp11801 Posted February 10, 2010 Report Posted February 10, 2010 Michael nice to see you over here, I've heard there speakers at his house and they sound really great. I'm already bummed that I'll only get to hear these and Al's speakers/system on visits. I had the chance to hear a few of the new designs at RMAF and thought they sounded great although I was partial to the Merlin floorstanders.
Voltron Posted February 10, 2010 Report Posted February 10, 2010 Hey Michael. I thought that was you yesterday and PM'd JP but he was actually working for a change and took a while to get back to me. Sorry for the short hold on your posting privileges but we sometimes react when new folks come in and post enthusiastically right off the bat. I should have PM'd you with a word of warning but didn't think of it. Don't take it personally -- a thick skin is mandatory here -- and you'll have a lot of fun. Besides, I have been wanting to hear your speakers for a long time now!
Icarium Posted February 10, 2010 Report Posted February 10, 2010 GMA owner courtesy of Girardian I'm quite happy with them and have had 0 urge to upgrade. Not much to compare it to but his calypsos are pretty amazing
randerson3024 Posted February 12, 2010 Report Posted February 12, 2010 I have a Hammer subwoofer and 4 Europa Max speakers. I have known Roy almost 30 years. He is a genius and perfectionist, and I have more respect for him than I can articulate. He would be horrified to know I am using his speakers for home theater. A tweeter blew in one of my Maggies, and I used the Europas in my reference system while waiting on the new one. I was amazed at how well they sounded. Placement and good stands are a must. I reccomend them highly. If you call GMA, you will likely get him on the phone, and he will talk to you as long as necessary. He's just a first rate guy.
Icarium Posted February 12, 2010 Report Posted February 12, 2010 I still need good stands, but priority just hasnt seen kindly to that. I need to position them better too... right now they arent even centered on anything.

Not surprised you've hung on to your Spectral power and pre. Two pards of mine drove Acoustat 1+1's and some old Fried floorstanders with them and I relished listen to choral music in particular via their systems with Linn and SOTA front ends. A Mencken fan, too, I am. Cheers.
randerson3024 Posted March 23, 2010 Report Posted March 23, 2010 Thanks! There are few of us Menckenites around..........
Tyll Hertsens Posted March 23, 2010 Report Posted March 23, 2010 I have to say that when ask which speakers I lust after, it's Green Mountain Audio. I wish he'd go to more shows as I rarely get the chance to hear them, but they consistently sound great in hotel rooms ... and that's not easy.
luvdunhill Posted March 24, 2010 Report Posted March 24, 2010 yea, the Eos and Rio look pretty sweet... either would be a really cool setup to listen to, those if I had to choose one it would be the Eos.
spritzer Posted March 24, 2010 Report Posted March 24, 2010 There was a review of the Eos in the newest HFN and they liked it a lot. Didn't go all crazy and wanted to date the designer though like with the Pass XA60.5...
