Eric5676
Here's the one I want: Amazon.com: Panasonic VIERA TC-P50VT25 50-inch 1080p 3D Plasma HDTV, Black: Electronics It's more than I want to spend. Panasonic TC-P50VT25 Plasma 3D TV Review by Chris Boylan on BigPictureBigSound You know you want it.
recstar24
Dinny, I use the included stand on mine on top of an ikea shelf, set at eye level from the couch. Also, I can say as a g25 owner that the vt25 truly kicks ass. The g25 could be considered midrange but the vt25 is entering the high end for current plasma and HDTV. Amazon may have it around the 15-1600 range possibly. Black levels are sick. Apparently panasonic hired a lot of the pioneer engineers and have bought out a lot of their plasma tech, which apparently they are using the most of it on the 3d models. For that price, you may also want to consider some of the local dimming backlit led models that apparently are the rage, I believe LG has a really nice one that is getting reviews. I personally love the look of a nice plasma as it has a very natural smooth image with plenty of pop, its very CRT like in that sense but with the added resolution and wow factor. I didn't go with the vt25 as I react very weird to 3d (got really sick watching avatar), but as a 2d set it is amazing.
deepak
Ryan have you seen anything 3D on the VT25? I'm curious how it translates to a much smaller screen vs Imax.
The Monkey
Thanks Ryan. I also am not a big fan of 3D and I'm afraid it would give my son spasms or something awful like that. But 2D pic quality is essential. At the same time, I'm probably not able to discern some of the qualities of the higher end stuff. Is the difference between the GT and the VT noticeable? Tapatalk. bhjazz
Here's the one I want. It's more than I want to spend. CES is this weekend. Once the new versions hit the shelves, these should be right in range.
grawk
I don't get the draw of 3D at all. Not even a little.
The Monkey
CES is this weekend. Once the new versions hit the shelves, these should be right in range. My thoughts exactly. In fact, I think Panny's press conference is today. EDIT: oops, sorry, it's tomorrow @ 3:00pm Vegas time. Dusty Chalk
I don't get the draw of 3D at all. Not even a little.I"m the opposite. I mean, do you get color? It's an improvement towards more realism. I realize they're a long way off from that, but that's the intent. Have you seen Coraline or Tron:Legacy in 3D?
grawk
So far, even in theaters, 3D has mostly made things less realistic for me. Sure, there's more depth, but it comes at a cost of realistic colors, and a lower effective frame rate. I haven't seen corraline or tron in 3d, tho. Dusty Chalk
so within a few weeks we'll all be able to get new model TVs at old model prices?Inasmuch as we were able to do that before at previous transition points. (I say that because some companies are notorious for trying to flog their previous gen's models for as long as stock lasts -- Sony, in particular, IIRC.) The gt is basically the same as the g25 but 3d capable. I wouldn't bother. I think the 2d picture quality on the g25 would be plenty fine for the majority of the users. And to get a quality picture is so freaking easy. Just switch to thx mode and basically your colors are dead accurate, then adjust your contrast and brightness to taste and enjoy. Very easy to enjoy tv and my wife and I really enjoy it.
Dusty Chalk
My cousin got a 3D tv not for the 3D, but because it was the best at its price point, but still with 120Hz refresh. It just happened to be 3D.
The Monkey
It's kind of weird being a non-videophile doing this research. Unlike audio gear, I now don't feel like I care about that last 10%. Or do I? If I don't care about spasm-inducing 3D maybe I should get the G25? Voltron
The VT25 just sounds like a better set all around. I am not that interested in 3D but the reviews and specs are pretty hawt.
The Monkey
Yeah, that's what I've gathered too, Al. It seems like including 3D is now the default in the mid-to-high end plasmas, so to get the latest and greatest in 2D panels, you need to get the newer 3D sets. Stupid TVs. yourmom
If I were had to buy a HDTV again, I'd take another plasma from Panasonic which let's me bypass the internal electronics which most of them do, I think. Then, add something like the DVDO Edge and be settled for a while... I'm happy with my P50S10.
The Monkey
So when you bypass the Panny electronics do you actually watch a Samsung plasma?
Knuckledragger
I'm (mostly) blind in one eye, and I have a mild hatred of 3D technology. I saw exactly one 3D film (Toy Story 3) and it was meh at best. I find it vaguely distressing that 3D is now becoming the standard in the upper end of flat panel TVs. I'm not a big fan of paying for technology I won't ever use. I saw a couple local-dimming LED lit LCD panels recently, and I quite liked the look of them. They're a bit pricey at the moment (way north of 2 grand). This thread as piqued my interest in the Panny plasmas.
yourmom
So when you bypass the Panny electronics do you actually watch a Samsung plasma? Who knows... Samsung used to have a bug with 50Hz material (resulting in worse black levels) which is a problem in Germany... If that's not a problem for you, I guess you could as well take a Samsung.
grawk
he was suggesting, I believe, that by bypassing the panasonic electronics, you're just watching whoever made the panel. Since that's probably samsung, why pay extra for the panasonic electronics?
yourmom
I watch quite a lot of 50Hz material, that's why. They may have fixed the problem by now, don't know.
