I saw those rumors, too, though it appears limited to Costco B&M stores, which is not convenient for me unfortunately.

Wow! The prices at Panny are very good right now. Thanks! Yeah, women avoided me like the plague.
The Monkey
fffuuu, if it looks too good to be true... The Panny prices apparently were erroneous. Site is down right now.
manaox2
It was a pretty good April fool's joke possibly. Slickdeals effect might have taken it down, there were a ton of crazy camera deals too.
emelius
http://slickdeals.net/forums/showthread.php?t=2816983 if this guy's to be trusted, there'll be crazy deals on Sony XBR-9s @ sears tomorrow...not led, but probably the best ccfl...& for those prices who cares... The Monkey
Just checked out the Panny ST series at j and r. They look nice. My son and I fell in love with the 55", and I now think that's what I'll get.

The Monkey
Got the 50" ST30. Sitting in its box now waiting for a stand. Also need a Blu-Ray player, but don't want to spend ~500 for an Oppo. Thinking about the Panny.
The Monkey
Speaking of which...is there any way I can do this without having to buy a Pre/Pro? I want to have a Blu-Ray and AppleTV and use my Quad 12L Actives.
Dusty Chalk
If you're going to use actives, then a pre/pro is the best way. You can always use your receiver as a pre/pro if it has pre outs, but that's just a waste of amperage. Oh, and a BDP-80 was effectively designed as a transport, but it's not that much less. The Monkey
Yeah, I was afraid you'd say that. Any good CHEAP Pre/Pros out there that can do 3D?
The Monkey
Or I use my NAD C372?
Dusty Chalk
Yeah, I was afraid you'd say that. Any good CHEAP Pre/Pros out there that can do 3D?There are, but I'm not sufficiently familiar with the market to make a recommendation. The last time I looked, several manufacturers had pre/pros in and out. Yamaha, Onkyo, Denon, Marantz, all had one, but I don't know about anything <US$500. The two big contenders for me were Emotiva UMC-1 and the Outlaw. The main problem with the NAD is that you'll want to add a sub eventually, but there are products specifically for that sort of thing (ICBM-1, etc.). Voltron
The NAD has tape outs if you want to use the Quad volume, or you could just set them to some reasonable level and control through pre-outs.
The Monkey
Thanks Al. I also just realized that if I move the NAD over to the TV space, then I'll need to move the Vienna Acoustics (floor standers), so maybe I just use those instead. Moar bass? Dusty Chalk
*cough* who cares *cough*Well it would be nice if it supported contemporary audio standards like DTS-HD and whatnot, for eventual surround (yes?). Also, does the TV have analog outs? If not, then you may need a pre/pro -- essentially a DAC at this point.
Voltron
I assume Monkey has a cable box and the Bluray, so no sound is likely to be originating in the TV.
The Monkey
The TV has its own shitty speakers. I'd rather not spend too much more money, if any. So I'm wondering if moving all the stereo shit across the room and using it as a 2.0 system for the TV also could work. Surround sound down the line but that's a long way down the line. Most I could hope for now is a sound bar.
Dusty Chalk
Yes, certainly just moving the whole stereo would suffice. But then don't use the shitty TV speakers.
Augsburger
If I am understanding you correctly Dinny, you may want to consider this- Invisible Monkey Audio or Cheaper Invisible Monkey Audio Then hook these up to you Audio Engine 5s--- if you haven't sold them for something else by now.
