ya might try costco...someone mentioned seeing the TC-P50GT25 there for $879.99...taxes suck...

I saw those rumors, too, though it appears limited to Costco B&M stores, which is not convenient for me unfortunately.

Just checked out the Panny ST series at j and r. They look nice. My son and I fell in love with the 55", and I now think that's what I'll get.

If you're going to use actives, then a pre/pro is the best way. You can always use your receiver as a pre/pro if it has pre outs, but that's just a waste of amperage.

Oh, and a BDP-80 was effectively designed as a transport, but it's not that much less.

Yeah, I was afraid you'd say that. Any good CHEAP Pre/Pros out there that can do 3D?
There are, but I'm not sufficiently familiar with the market to make a recommendation. The last time I looked, several manufacturers had pre/pros in and out. Yamaha, Onkyo, Denon, Marantz, all had one, but I don't know about anything <US$500. The two big contenders for me were Emotiva UMC-1 and the Outlaw.

The main problem with the NAD is that you'll want to add a sub eventually, but there are products specifically for that sort of thing (ICBM-1, etc.).

*cough* who cares *cough*
Well it would be nice if it supported contemporary audio standards like DTS-HD and whatnot, for eventual surround (yes?).

Also, does the TV have analog outs? If not, then you may need a pre/pro -- essentially a DAC at this point.

The TV has its own shitty speakers. I'd rather not spend too much more money, if any. So I'm wondering if moving all the stereo shit across the room and using it as a 2.0 system for the TV also could work. Surround sound down the line but that's a long way down the line. Most I could hope for now is a sound bar.
