drp Posted February 20, 2013 Report Posted February 20, 2013 (edited) That really stinks, Justin. Having a local, trustworthy, and fast-shipping Stax dealer is what helped me pull the trigger on cans and amp; I hope it all balances out for you in the end. Edited February 20, 2013 by drp
livewire Posted February 21, 2013 Report Posted February 21, 2013 The vultures are hovering.... Let us know when you're having a Stax sale. I'd be interested in a new 407 at a good price. (~$500)
justin Posted February 21, 2013 Report Posted February 21, 2013 thats my cost after factoring in shipping/cc fees, but why not...can always get more if i need it.
Dusty Chalk Posted February 21, 2013 Report Posted February 21, 2013 i now have about 25k in worthless Stax inventory, and my own stuff just got 20% more expensive in Japan. only positive is i might have more BHSEs to build Wait, what? Why, what happened? 'Currency fluctuations'...so the Yen dropped, and your competitors will be able to buy more cheaply than you did, is that what happened? Isn't there usually a time-lag on that stuff? I.E. won't at least some of your competitors also have stock to sell first?
justin Posted February 21, 2013 Report Posted February 21, 2013 (edited) the U.S. dealer cost and U.S. retail cost should fall as well, but that's not how it works Kind of thing people in Canada/Europe/Australia are always bitching about I would also expect the SR-009 lead time to jump really high because of this. The 4-5 weeks that a particular website is quoting is not accurate. It's more like 4-5 months at this point. Edited February 21, 2013 by justin
complin Posted February 21, 2013 Report Posted February 21, 2013 (edited) Yeh exports will be cheaper BUT if you need to import lots of components, energy and materials to manufacture them they will cost more due to inflation. Also people will want higher wages to cover food, energy etc. Japan are trying to stimulate inflation (rising prices) in their economy as they have been in a deflationary spiral for decades. So I would expect in the medium term for prices to rise, not fall, that is if the Bank of Japan's strategy actually works to stimulate at least 2% inflation! Wait, what? Why, what happened? 'Currency fluctuations'...so the Yen dropped, and your competitors will be able to buy more cheaply than you did, is that what happened? Isn't there usually a time-lag on that stuff? oogabooga Posted February 22, 2013 Report Posted February 22, 2013 Okay, so these aren't headphones but they are supposed to be STAX speakers, and at $750? http://www.canuckaudiomart.com/details/649045576-stax_electrostatic_speakers/
eggil Posted February 22, 2013 Report Posted February 22, 2013 Well Justin, all I can say is, I've been very happy to help you reduce your inventory
complin Posted February 22, 2013 Report Posted February 22, 2013 For Justin I'm sure cash flow is king Well Justin, all I can say is, I've been very happy to help you reduce your inventory

fierce_freak Posted February 24, 2013 Report Posted February 24, 2013 (edited) I'm thinking of picking up a pair of SR-009 - what's the best place to be looking right now? And with the current situation in Japan am I better off getting sooner rather than later? Oh, hi guys Edited February 24, 2013 by fierce_freak 1
TMoney Posted February 24, 2013 Report Posted February 24, 2013 ^ Give Justin a call and see what he can do for you, natch.
Tachikoma Posted February 28, 2013 Report Posted February 28, 2013 Sony ECA-80 internals, as requested: http://imgur.com/a/J0CcD I wonder why there are condoms on two of the caps in the corner...
justin Posted February 28, 2013 Report Posted February 28, 2013 probably to cover the top of the metal can which may be at a high voltage
Tachikoma Posted February 28, 2013 Report Posted February 28, 2013 Sounds reasonable. If only they built the headphones to the same level, because everything about it stinks of planned obsolescence, from the cable to the headband. Thank goodness that the drivers are alright, besides needing a little charge time to reach full volume on one side.
oogabooga Posted February 28, 2013 Report Posted February 28, 2013 At the other place (http://www.head-fi.org/t/651044/stax-lambda-pros), immtbiker is selling Lambda Pros for $700. I thought most of the older lambdas were more like 400 or so. Could someone please illuminate me? I feel like I'm missing something.
blessingx Posted February 28, 2013 Report Posted February 28, 2013 WTH? I've bought and sold them for $300.
spritzer Posted February 28, 2013 Report Posted February 28, 2013 No Lambda Pro is worth 700$ IMO. Sony ECA-80 internals, as requested: http://imgur.com/a/J0CcD I wonder why there are condoms on two of the caps in the corner... Odd layout with the audio transformers so close together but nothing astounding either.
Tachikoma Posted March 1, 2013 Report Posted March 1, 2013 Spritzer, do you still have any stax bias boards lying around? I'm thinking of getting a 580V bias hacked onto it. My other pro headphones are sensitive enough to run off the ECA-80's stock bias, but the O2 is a totally different story.

jwzhan Posted April 1, 2013 Report Posted April 1, 2013 I just got my 007mk1, but it has a slight channel imbalance issue. The left channel is 1dBA higher than the right. I realized it immediately when I put them on, then I confirmed it with a dB meter. The seller, of course, claimed it to be free of such problem. He had a 717 amp, and probably didn't notice the imbalance because it is so small. I just want to know if this is a common problem, and if it is a problem to be concerned about. Thanks.
spritzer Posted April 1, 2013 Report Posted April 1, 2013 Not a common problem I'm afraid. Should be completely even as the drivers are matched into pairs.
