Dusty Chalk Posted July 3, 2010 Report Posted July 3, 2010 If I may pat myself on the back, did I not tell you to get a BHSE from Headamp? Yes, I did. Alright, no, I did not, but I did tell you not to cancel your order, that's close enough.
mypasswordis Posted July 7, 2010 Report Posted July 7, 2010 Now you just need to buy the new SR-007Mk2.5... Are you referring to the possibly fixed issue of the "bass ports"?
morphsci Posted July 8, 2010 Report Posted July 8, 2010 What is the current selling price for used 4070s in good condition? Not much to be found online.
spritzer Posted July 8, 2010 Report Posted July 8, 2010 I'd say somewhere north of 1k$ up to maybe 1200$ for a truly mint set.
Elephas Posted July 8, 2010 Report Posted July 8, 2010 A new 4070 is not that much less than a new O2, so most people probably choose the O2. The 4070 seems to be relatively rare, even among electrostats in general. I tried out the 4070 and O2mk2 with my "newly developing and powerfully improved" musical tastes and the Master and Commander soundtrack a few days ago. "La musica notturna delle strade di Madrid" was glorious. Really just about as good as actually being in the captain's cabin of the HMS Surprise with Aubrey and the doc. I don't think they would've played as well.
Elephas Posted July 8, 2010 Report Posted July 8, 2010 All right, it's time to get out of the boring 19th century and into the 80's and 90's!!! Coming up next on the playlist: Kim Wilde - Kids in America KWS - Please Don't Go (Sunshine Mix) Nena - 99 Luftballons Sinead O'Conner - Mandinka I can't help it, the O2m2 + BHSE makes those songs sound so good!!!
Asr Posted July 8, 2010 Report Posted July 8, 2010 What is the current selling price for used 4070s in good condition? Not much to be found online. Well Elusive Disc's new price is $2025 which is probably MSRP, though Woo Audio's price is only $1700. Take an appropriate percentage off I guess. You know, one of these days I'm going to travel to Asia and when I do I might want to stop by your place and look at your CD collection to see what else you have. (Well and I'm also going to want to listen your gear too of course.)
morphsci Posted July 8, 2010 Report Posted July 8, 2010 I'm not a big fan of elusive disc as their price is usually "whatever the he'll we can get" rather than MSRP. The Woo price does seem a little low.
forbigger Posted July 8, 2010 Report Posted July 8, 2010 I've been noticing that the best price comes from audiocubes2 never dealt with them though, just recap, price of O2mk2 at elusive/woo/audiocubes2 : 2400/2150/1999. For 4070 elusive/woo/audiocubes2: 2024/1700/1700

dcpoor Posted July 8, 2010 Report Posted July 8, 2010 a pair of 4070's sold for <$1k a few days ago. STAX 4070 Close-Back Type Earspeakers SR-4070 - eBay (item 280525985732 end time Jul-05-10 01:09:21 PDT)
Elephas Posted July 9, 2010 Report Posted July 9, 2010 (edited) $960 is quite a good deal, I might have bid at least $1200. I think maybe too few people have heard a 4070 and it's less discussed than other headphones, so the demand is low. You know, one of these days I'm going to travel to Asia and when I do I might want to stop by your place and look at your CD collection to see what else you have. (Well and I'm also going to want to listen your gear too of course.) You already know what my gear sounds like. Well, maybe not all the EL34 tube types I've got. As for music collection, I was an old school CD guy, got my first CD player a Portable Walkman in 1984. Over twenty years of CD buying means thousands of CD's. Unfortunately, most of them were concentrated in the early 90's when I developed what has become my horrible musical taste (pop, dance, electronic, chill out mostly) which has stayed with me despite advancing age. Sure, I've got the usual audiophile stuff, jazz, Patricia Barber, etc. but it seems I'm still stuck in the 80/90's. Quite embarrassing and a bit sad. Edited July 9, 2010 by Elephas

Hey if you enjoy it, nothing to be sad about, just sit back, relax, and enjoy
spritzer Posted July 9, 2010 Report Posted July 9, 2010 I for one enjoy music from that era from time to time, even Icelandic 80's music which ranges from bad to terrible. I for one can't stand "audiophile music" ...

Torpedo Posted July 9, 2010 Report Posted July 9, 2010 I like Mezzoforte. They have a saxophonist who must be Birgir's relative
spritzer Posted July 9, 2010 Report Posted July 9, 2010 Ohh I'm sure we are related, everybody here is. Turns out the singer from Sigur R
Voltron Posted July 9, 2010 Report Posted July 9, 2010 Maybe he'll look a little more healthy if he eats your baked goods more often. He was playing at a record store and then signing autographs and the effort of writing his name seemed to tire his wispy little body out.
spritzer Posted July 9, 2010 Report Posted July 9, 2010 Yeah, he doesn't fit too well into the whole viking image...
Voltron Posted July 9, 2010 Report Posted July 9, 2010 Speaking of which, you need to look at the what are you drinking thread for inspiration to come out to Mayberry.
spritzer Posted July 9, 2010 Report Posted July 9, 2010 I wonder if I can get a discount by proving I'm related to some famous vikings?
Voltron Posted July 9, 2010 Report Posted July 9, 2010 Bring your axe just in case they don't believe you.
Sherwood Posted July 9, 2010 Report Posted July 9, 2010 Does that mean you're related to Snorri, Birgir? Oh, how dreamy.
spritzer Posted July 9, 2010 Report Posted July 9, 2010 I can't access the database for all Icelanders (never bothered to register) but given that parts of my family come from the same region it is highly probable.
