spritzer Posted September 10, 2021 Report Posted September 10, 2021 Yeah, the SRM-500t is the same amp as the SRM-006tS but the price is up by 35% or so, the SRM-400S is a far worse design than the SRM-353X and again, the price is up by 30-40%. Don't get me started on the SRM-700 amps...
Sarieri Posted September 10, 2021 Report Posted September 10, 2021 Someone from edifier said “it depends on how you think of TOTL”. Idk. Maybe something mid range just to test new stators?
padam Posted September 10, 2021 Report Posted September 10, 2021 Highly unlikely. The manufacturing process resembles the SR-009S much more than the SR-L700 Mk2, which looks much simpler.

All of the Stax prices are now nuts so this is probably going to be 10k$ or more. 10k$ or MOAR you mean...🤪 I must admit between this and the CRBN there seems to be interesting stuff happening from the more serious players in the business.
spritzer Posted September 10, 2021 Report Posted September 10, 2021 It's always great to have new sets to play with but the recent Stax sets have just been such a massive letdown. The 009BK is the only one of the recent sets I've actually kept but that's more down to me needing to have a set of 009's rather than using them for fun. The 009S is such a disappointment... Speaking of the CRBN... I'll be posting about that soon as I have them sitting on my head right now... Ohhh and teardown pictures as well. 6

Spritzer, I recall that you were disappointed with the SR-009S bass response in comparison with the SR-007MkII, though you found the bright treble response to not be as objectionable as the SR-009. Do I have this correct as your main concern? Much appreciate your insights on this, thanks! ORB

ORB The hot treble was fixed but there is a massive hole in the bass response and I don't know how they could ship something like that.

Stax changed something there. Also slightly different earpads, headband, leather headpad(both side made from leather at some point).

I'm not really interested in portable amps as I find them a silly novelty for open phones that bleed as much as Stax do but we could do something for the Shure's. The stock amps are pretty good but could be improved upon... sorry to raise this from so long ago, but did a portable amp for the Shure's ever happen?
kevin gilmore Posted September 13, 2021 Report Posted September 13, 2021 stax mafia electrostatic portable in the works. would need the bias adjusted for the shure headphones. 1 2

Price will be revealed very soon anyway.
padam Posted September 15, 2021 Report Posted September 15, 2021 If it is a "Project X" development announcement just like it was for the Stax C32 prototype (October 2010, released as SR-009 in March 2011) then they will only tell a rough estimate regarding pricing.
Covered_Ears Posted September 16, 2021 Report Posted September 16, 2021 "Suggested MSRP of 693000 yen" (~6750 depending on exchange rate) from the website. It's past 6 kilobucks. Whelp. https://translate.google.com/translate?sl=auto&tl=en&u=https://stax.co.jp/news/x9000/

Hugo Posted September 16, 2021 Report Posted September 16, 2021 The reviewer mentioned bass strength/realism. Result of the 20% larger drivers? Will listen to these on 9/23. Can’t wait! 4

Yes, that's something that the SR-Omega has over the SR-009 as well, even shows up in measurements. A comparison against an SR-Omega is in order, probably in a few months' time when / if I'm given the chance 😉 Fujiya Avic video [Full English translation amongst the comments] Edited September 17, 2021 by padam 3
spritzer Posted September 16, 2021 Report Posted September 16, 2021 I'm cautiously optimistic that Stax didn't fuck these up but none of the new factors matter at all if they messed up the voicing.

Juansan2 Posted September 16, 2021 Report Posted September 16, 2021 is there any news about reviews in English as I'm not finding much on google? I know they will all say they are the best ever but at least to get an idea.
padam Posted September 16, 2021 Report Posted September 16, 2021 As Hugo wrote, listening sessions will be open to the public in limited numbers in a weeks' time. So be patient, impressions will come. Maybe Head-Fi will also obtain a demo pair from Woo Audio or Stax, etc. 1
Four Kneez Posted September 16, 2021 Report Posted September 16, 2021 Is there any chance these end up at CanJam next week, since HeadAmp and Woo Audio will be there?
