Voltron Posted December 27, 2007 Report Posted December 27, 2007 OK, here goes, although I have been experiencing technical difficulties uploading and wish that it wasn't dark.
pabbi1 Posted December 27, 2007 Report Posted December 27, 2007 I may be buying this setup. Anyone have any opinions? Mark is an outstanding individual, and has acquired and liquidated quite a bit of Stax gear recently, so he should be pretty accurate in what he is asking $$$ wise. I would wager this is pretty well in the range for what he has actually paid for all this within the past year. Negotiation is always part of the deal, but I believe this to be market, not fire sale or disposition at all costs pricing. I do also agree with your valuation breakdown, as that is more or less what I would pay for each, were I in the market for those pieces.
Voltron Posted December 27, 2007 Report Posted December 27, 2007 Pics on last page, but I will do some shots in the light tomorrow.

Al, did you catch the bug from Gene as well? Cool looking rig. I may have for the meet as well.
Voltron Posted December 27, 2007 Report Posted December 27, 2007 Thanks. I'm waiting to hear back from him. Al, did you catch the bug from Gene as well? Cool looking rig. I may have for the meet as well. I had been considering a relatively inexpensive Stax rig to try out the electrostatic option in more depth than just hearing other people's rigs. I think Gene snatching up a new top of the line rig put me over the edge, however. I am looking forward to hearing the new O2 setup in Mayberry but also want to hear these Lambdas with the better amp to hear the differences.
tyrion Posted December 27, 2007 Report Posted December 27, 2007 That's kind of the same story with me. I'm still trying to decide which way to go, start slow or just go for it.
boomana Posted December 27, 2007 Report Posted December 27, 2007 Dang, guys! I say go for it. Al, Mike, and Gene all joining the Stax team within a couple weeks! And I thought my little Christmas present was nifty. At least I can look forward to Al's meet to check out the new toys.
spritzer Posted December 27, 2007 Report Posted December 27, 2007 Welcome to the Stax mafia. The system looks great but let the upgrade madness commence...
n_maher Posted December 27, 2007 Report Posted December 27, 2007 That's kind of the same story with me. I'm still trying to decide which way to go, start slow or just go for it. Why wade into the shallow end of the pool when you can go straight for the high-dive?
tyrion Posted December 27, 2007 Report Posted December 27, 2007 Nate this is one of the reasons I like you. You make a compelling argument, present it in the simplest of terms, so even I can understand.....and you can fix stuff.
n_maher Posted December 27, 2007 Report Posted December 27, 2007 Mike, I do what I can and considering how little that is I take an offer when it's presented.
thrice Posted December 27, 2007 Author Report Posted December 27, 2007 You lied to us Vince: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0536870/
n_maher Posted December 27, 2007 Report Posted December 27, 2007 You lied to us Vince: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0536870/ I believe that photographic evidence presented has shown that this individual is doing nothing other than trying to game fame through the use of my pseudonym.
tyrion Posted December 27, 2007 Report Posted December 27, 2007 So what if he is a really a geeky looking kid with red hair? Nate, how was that semester in London?
tyrion Posted December 28, 2007 Report Posted December 28, 2007 Despite Nate's pushing, I didn't step over the edge, yet. Plaid's (Mark's) Lamda Pro/007t should be on its way to me tomorrow. This will allow me to pick up the new O2's if I want and I will have an amp for them while I wait to see what Justin comes up with next year.

I got 1 step closer today to the new Stax amps for next year...received a prototype of the heatsink that will be for the sides of the chassis. its going to be a heavy one

pabbi1 Posted December 28, 2007 Report Posted December 28, 2007 What he said. x3 While I usually don't buy amps, this looks to be an exception. Damn it, damn it, damn it.
spritzer Posted December 28, 2007 Report Posted December 28, 2007 Very nice Justin. Anodize them black, slap on a silver front panel and it could be mistaken for a Pass Labs amp. Are you going to do any work on the KGSS circuit besides altering the layout, new PSU etc.?
n_maher Posted December 28, 2007 Report Posted December 28, 2007 Very nice Justin. Anodize them black, slap on a silver front panel and it could be mistaken for a Pass Labs amp. I'm pretty sure that Justin has no desire to me mistaken for Pass Labs.

The current sources will be replaced with the IXYS parts in the amp & PSU, and I might try a few other devices that KG has suggested for the output devices. The 1st 2 stages will become a small surface mount module, with 2sa1156 replaced with the higher voltage 2sa1413. the 2sk389 will be the lsk389 from linear systems
