The headphones could be faulty but personally I'd check out the WEE first.  They aren't exactly known to be reliable or well made...or good for the headphones for that matter.

So, uh, weird question. Are Stax diaphragm materials affected by long term exposure to direct sunlight? What about light in general? Should I keep them under a dark cover to maximize longevity?

direct sunlight is definitely a bad thing

Yup, that will kill them real quick.  Ambient light is not really an issue.

Dug my old Mark 1 007s out of a packing crate today and spent a few hours listening. Not much wrong with those!

Looks like the prices are sort of dropping on the east compared to what they used to go for. Not a bad buy for somebody who just wants it from a collectors perspective.

Been there, done that.  I'm even going to sell off part of my collection now as I simply never have time to use this stuff.    I buy them and then they just sit so I'm kinda tired of this accumulation of gear.

The worse part is that these comments made me curious and... so basically, woo wes and earpods is all you need, the rest is to show off and, by the way, I am spending 50 grands on a headphone system where the tubes raise up when you turn the amp on, I am thus done with audio.
