GPH Posted June 2, 2008 Report Posted June 2, 2008 I can easily be fooled into something like this. Me too.
spritzer Posted June 2, 2008 Report Posted June 2, 2008 For the case, the Nabu from Surplus Sales of Nebraska with a FPE panel would be a decent choice I think. MAT02 could work to replace the 2SK389, or the LSK389. 2SA1968 isnt difficult to find, just expensive. Check BDent, they have it in stock, and I have always had good luck with them before. That case would work well and at that price it's tough to beat.
luvdunhill Posted June 2, 2008 Report Posted June 2, 2008 Gonna stick with board mounted heatsinks though, probably 2" tall SK129 profile. please at least give an option for external heat sinking. This amp really improves with extra biasing and it's stupid simple to do...
swt61 Posted June 2, 2008 Report Posted June 2, 2008 Team Budget-Stat, Unite! What happened to "no stats in 08"?
n_maher Posted June 2, 2008 Report Posted June 2, 2008 What happened to "no stats in 08"? I failed that mantra ages ago.
swt61 Posted June 2, 2008 Report Posted June 2, 2008 I failed that mantra ages ago. Rules are meant to be broken. I love Marc's Koss/KGSS combo!
slwiser Posted June 2, 2008 Report Posted June 2, 2008 What happened to "no stats in 08"? And I never thought I would have one and now I have two Stax headphones and one Adapter and one amp. And now these have me thinking heavy about a Omega SR-001 Mk2.
deepak Posted June 2, 2008 Report Posted June 2, 2008 And I never thought I would have one and now I have two Stax headphones and one Adapter and one amp. And now these have me thinking heavy about a Omega SR-001 Mk2. Portable Omega would be awesome.
kevin gilmore Posted June 2, 2008 Report Posted June 2, 2008 2sa1968's not needed for kgss. Think KGBH power supply. Front end fets can be matched from single devices if necessary, but lsk389 is a wonderful part.
n_maher Posted June 3, 2008 Report Posted June 3, 2008 So, step one is to track down the board files and specs for the amp and PS pcbs and I can get quotes. Are the old files in the PD somewhere?

Are the old files in the PD somewhere? there are a lot of shitty board designs out there... good luck on this endeavor. I hope you enjoy troubleshooting.
naamanf Posted June 3, 2008 Report Posted June 3, 2008 Glad to hear that you like them. It may be time to buy one now and use that black PC-OCC cable I've been saving for just that... Can you post some detailed pics of the back of the earcups to show how the cable attaches to the drivers? I'm not sure if it would be worth the trouble pulling them apart to replace the cable. The problem is that the ear cups are glued in place (bad idea I know) and would have to be removed.
luvdunhill Posted June 3, 2008 Report Posted June 3, 2008 I probably misunderstood Nate then, I figured he was looking for old board files... carry on.
grawk Posted June 3, 2008 Report Posted June 3, 2008 I probably misunderstood Nate then, I figured he was looking for old board files... carry on. I think he was. I was suggesting using colin's board layout instead.
postjack Posted June 3, 2008 Report Posted June 3, 2008 I'm in! What are we doing? getting a bunch of sweet O2 capable amps.
The Monkey Posted June 3, 2008 Report Posted June 3, 2008 It's the damn chassis work that gets me. Well, that and the soldering and troubleshooting and stuff--but the damn chassis work is the killer.

Friggen lawyers, never wanna get their hands dirty. And I was talking about looking for whatever board files are out there, new, old, yet to be done. Doesn't matter a bit to me. If all that's available are shitty old board files then lets re-do them. I may be an ass but I don't generally do things half-assed. I'm a whole ass, damnit.

If there's one thing I like less than unlean hands, it's getting zapped.
