You can start where you like, but you would be wrong ;)

The first year was the first year. The 2010th year is the 2010th year. We haven't finished 2010 years until the end of 2010.

Unless the "first" year was actually 0. Going from 0 to 1 then is the first year. That may not be convention, but it is not wrong, only different. I hate following convention even if the sheeples think I am wrong. :P

Happy New Year, Happy New Decade, and Fuck The Pedants -- 1990 was not part of the 80's; 2000 was not part of the 90's. I mean, sure, we can argue that we haven't technically started the 201st decade yet, but no-one calls it that.

That's the rub - there was never a zero year in any currently used calendar system :)

Don't care. Decade starts in the 0 years. Suckit.
