... Anyone else have something to offer the new guy that's not an asshole's quip?

Read your welcome PM and don't be an asshat. Not an auspicious start.

I'm a professional mastering engineer, so 'brainwashing' myself into hearing things is not something I can allow myself to do very often. My take on them is they're resolute and offer good depth and details for the rare moments I want a headphone to check distortion, they are nothing more or less.

Anyone else have something to offer the new guy that's not an asshole's quip?

I have a soft spot for recording professionals, so I'll give you a little help: (a) we're a snarky bunch, so we say stuff like that all the time, including to each other -- think of it as a cultural difference thing; (B) pretty much everyone else here has what can only be considered the opposite of a soft spot for recording professionals, because most recording professionals that we've had experience with on the forums are assholes. So instead of trying to post your own brag sheet, tell us objectively what you think...I'll even get you started -- I have no idea how many hours were on the pair or two I've heard briefly, but my experience with them is that they have some bizarre frequency response with multiple peaks and valleys, almost like a roller coaster. I can see that, once you've gotten used to that bizarreness, they might be appealing, but by no means accurate. So (a) does your experience with them reflect mine? And: (B) do the peaks and valleys go away with significant burn-in, or whut? I do believe in burn-in myself, but I am skeptical that they can transform the GS-1000 into anything other than what it is -- a very quirky, eccentric headphone that could appeal to only a fraction of all audiophiles.

To quote Bricktop. You are on thin fucking ice my pedegree chum.

Being a mastering engineer is not a free pass to say what you like. My brother is a mastering engineer (technically) and I wouldn't trust his opinion in headphones even as far as his taste in beer. And he drinks Fosters.

You've been pointed to the welcome PM. Pay it heed. We welcome new people here and this is a good place, but the learning curve is steep and coated in broken glass, and sometimes on fire.

Since no one has answered my post about break in times and differences between the GS and PS, and everyone seems to think this homoerotic personal shit is par ... I'll just bow out.

Enjoy yourselves.

Such a shame.

What's below sub-par? We're apparently under a rock underneath that. Doing homoerotic things. And snickering. And sometimes on fire.

An exasperated sanctimonious fuck you to you too dear chap. Once you've calmed down, do please come back.

To defer to your question, I've not heard the GS1K or PS1K. I don't like Grados as a rule (RS-1 + GS-1 is nice) and I think that burn-in is hugely overstated in terms of the physical excuses for its effects.

I'm working on a pop record that will sell 2-4 million and I have a cool record (The Black Keys 'Brothers') in the Billboard top 10 this week ... I really don't have time for insults or this juvenile shit.

Still no answer to my two questions ... what a forum this is! Clearly you're more about the personal than the headphones. It's not about thick or thin skin, it's about signal to noise.

I don't give a shit about your opinion on my phones, I don't even love them, and I'm not audiophile hater, nor an engineer hater ... I asked a couple of fucking questions.

How do I sign off for good? Moderator please ...

Sorry, no, that's all we've got.
Hey, at least we're honest.

For the record (ahem) -- you actually did get your answer right here -- no-one's heard the PS1000 and the GS1000 with the knowledge of how many hours of burn-in they had.

To the first part -- that is more or less accurate, although people might quibble about the "more"; I think it ebbs and flows, myself.

To the second part -- just log out. This is not the Hotel California.

So we might expect those two records to not be compressed to shit like every single song which hits the high numbers in the charts and sales? That'd be awesome. Please let me know which record this is so I can buy it for the novelty value. I'll check out "Brothers" ( I really will, although you'll be gone before it gets to me and I hear it).

You made it personal when you insulted the first reply you got. Glass. Fucking. Houses. Dan, Mark, Ken...?

You asked for opinions you didn't want? Perhaps you were actually looking for quantitative answers?

I think 'hate' is overstating things -- there's one or two of us here that like them, but certainly not enough to do the comparison of which you're asking. In my case, yes, I did hate them, but I by no means speak for the forum -- just ask them.

And to the latter -- no, no, just assholes, not deaf. You're welcome to prove them otherwise, but you're certainly not trending in that direction.

And boomana -- to his defense, I am, indeed, an asshole, and that was, indeed, a quip. I'm alright with that.

What does the price have to do with anything? Lucey, I think you'd like it here. Grab a beer, read through some threads and shut it for a little bit. If that doesn't work for you then check out headfi.com.

Nobody cares here how many pop albums you've worked on or sold or blah blah blah. We all know people who have done same, or at least many of us have, and I certainly have. What I'm interested in is why a sound engineer would choose either of those headphones. That makes absolutely no sense to me. Now the HP1s or 2s, that's a different story, but the GS1000 or PS1000, I just don't get it.

Look, people like his musicality and they come back for that musicality. And they can pay in $1 increments on Paypal for his professional services. How would you cretins think you can question him on anything to do with music, headphones or, really, anything else for that matter?

Plus, he's mastering in the Matrix

Because I'm slightly drunk, and have entered a period of profound liminality in my life?

I only posted a couple of credits to show that I know how to listen. I regularly win work from the $500/hr crowd, I'm not deaf. The GS1000s are used 1% of the time I work, only to hear pops and clicks. They are resolute and have plenty of top, so they work just fine thanks.

So I'm wondering what you've done that's sold over 1M records? I'm posting my name ... who are you?

And I'm wondering why you all would assume that I "like" these phones more than others ... I don't. They're a tool. If I were listening to music on them I'd probably keep searching but I'm too busy being paid to work to A/B phones all day or even listen for enjoyment.

Why insult someone new as being unable to have an intention that makes sense for this phone? I tried K701, 600s, 650s and then paid $600 for these. Job well done. Next fucking topic please?

No one has heard the PS is that correct? Thanks for one answer in 12 quips!

You're standing up well in some regards, not so well in others. I think that once this unusually firey baptism is over you might very well be comfortable here.

For pops and clicks testing, I'd personally use something unashamedly treble-heavy at the expense of being able to actually listen to music enjoyably. Something like a freely open undamped ortho. (Or a Grado SR-325, horrible things)

I have heard the PS1000 and like them quite a bit more than the GS1000, although I could not tell you how many hours were logged on the handful of GS pairs I have heard or the couple of PS pairs. I don't like either of them all that much, especially compared to other Grados I have and like.
