hirsch Posted October 25, 2006 Report Posted October 25, 2006 Hirsch, before you get rid of yours, you may want to try using them again. Am I getting rid of mine? I hadn't heard about that. I need to keep more current, I guess.
909 Posted October 25, 2006 Report Posted October 25, 2006 Yeah, you are selling them to me... Didn't you get the memo
Dusty Chalk Posted October 26, 2006 Author Report Posted October 26, 2006 Am I getting rid of mine? I hadn't heard about that. I need to keep more current, I guess. I guess I meant before you get to the point where you seriously consider selling yours.
neilvg Posted October 27, 2006 Report Posted October 27, 2006 Well I had the L3k's some time ago. I tried them w/ the EMP AE, the Rudi RP6, it's matching amp (forgot the name), SDS-XLR, MPX3 (maxxed). It sounded the best out of the MPX3 actually (to me). But I couldn't get used to the complete LACK of air, and what I feel ARE rolled off high's. It had a very, umm, "intimate" sound I guess you could say. It even has/had an upper midrange spike around 1-3khz (which came off as harsh or rolled up). Certain recordings sounded good, but in general, it did NOT have the tonality I usually like... ...Nevertheless there was something about these headphones that kept me listening. It was a unique and intriguing way to listen to my music. Eventually I ended up trying to EQ these suckers. I even put up a thread on headfi somewhere. It was interesting, and I was able to isolate and find just those frequencies I thought needed some work. The headphone sounded better (in that it now sounded less like an L3K!), but it also sounded more sterile, and less effortless in its reproduction. The bottom line was, I realized I was asking something out of those phones (and those drivers) that it clearly wasn't designed to do. Hearing the rest of the AT line, I guess, to some degree, I'm not an AT Fan. Eventually I ended up selling them. BUT, nevertheless again, there is something about these phones that still, to this day, intrigues me, and I woundn't be surprised if one day I acquired another pair. Neil

909 Posted December 4, 2006 Report Posted December 4, 2006 The cord is such a little bitch. I put them away after listening in that cheap blue velvet covered cardboard box and I've one hell of a time getting that cord to behave and not tangle. On another note, I need to burn that test CD and give it a listen.
thrice Posted December 5, 2006 Report Posted December 5, 2006 Does anyone know how the L3000 compares to the DT990 (newer version)?
grawk Posted December 5, 2006 Report Posted December 5, 2006 L3000 has more leather, and is either browner or greener, depending.
tkam Posted December 5, 2006 Report Posted December 5, 2006 Does anyone know how the L3000 compares to the DT990 (newer version)? For me it really wasn't even close. The L3000 are better phones in every aspect. The DT990 are priced in with the HD650 and K701 and they perform along a similar line.

tkam Posted December 5, 2006 Report Posted December 5, 2006 grandenigma's Oracle cable (silver alloy)
Guest sacd lover Posted December 5, 2006 Report Posted December 5, 2006 grandenigma's Oracle cable (silver alloy) Hmmm .... no wonder I liked your L3000's best. I think PFK told me this but I forgot.
