Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday, not the history of it, which is fucked up, but more the idea that there is a holiday with a least a loose idea of gathering with friends and family and being thankful for what we have. I know I have more than I deserve in good family, friends, health, and material things, and I am genuinely and deeply grateful. Actually, I'm pretty amazed and humored by it all on most days, even by you guys. May you all have a safe and fun day.

Happy Thanksgiving gang. I am looking forward to slipping into a wine- and tryptophan-induced coma in front of the big TV at my parents' house while watching football and swatting at children who try to change the channel.

Did you guys know before Halloween came into its own, there was for a time, "Thanksgiving Masking" (door to door for apples, etc. for the later meal)? Just found that out this morning.

Anyway, on the birth and death of holidays, with Halloween increasingly becoming an international and adult one, and Christmas decorations extending to at least it, I wonder how much longer Thanksgiving has? Which is too bad, because as my friend Melissa says, Thanksgiving is the lower stress, good stuff from Christmas - getting together with family and friends, a spirit in the air where strangers are ever so slightly nicer to one another, a wonderful meal, and presents - which you've already got. Hoping you all a great one.

As the token native american on this forum I take great umbrage at your celebrating this holliday. I expect you all to mail your turkeys to my palpal verified address and I'll dispose of them properly.

@Token Native American: Win. Yeah, sorry about all that. But the Pilgrims did bring the Internet, so y'know, that's something.

and Neon lights. How could we have Vegas without that?

In terms of things I am thankful for this year:

A steady job, a house, sufficient food and clothing, and relative good health for the majority of my friends and loved ones.

And, without getting too cheesy, I am very thankful for this group of kindred spirits, who make my life that much richer.

I'm thankful for still having my job, having my family still here, and being able to see them.

I'm glad to know all of you as well who make me so much poorer. :) Happy Thanksgiving!
