tkam Posted September 12, 2006 Report Posted September 12, 2006 Pretty sure it's KG's all tube electrostat amp that you can see on headwize.
Salt Peanuts Posted September 12, 2006 Report Posted September 12, 2006 Pretty sure it's KG's all tube electrostat amp that you can see on headwize. IIRC, that's what KG said at some point somewhere in the Head-Fi. EDIT - Found the thread. http://166.90.205.111/forums/showthread.php?t=90172
Dusty Chalk Posted October 9, 2006 Report Posted October 9, 2006 I assume there is some feedback. I thought Mikhail eschewed feedback...?
thrice Posted October 9, 2006 Report Posted October 9, 2006 I thought Mikhail eschewed feedback...? Or does he just obfuscate it?
Dusty Chalk Posted October 9, 2006 Report Posted October 9, 2006 Or does he just obfuscate it?No...I think he eschews obfuscation as well. Obfuscation of feedback would be Berning's domain.
tkam Posted October 10, 2006 Report Posted October 10, 2006 Yeah thats just about a KG sized pic . So these are the last parts you were waiting on? If so there should be some happy customers in the next week or two.
deepak Posted October 10, 2006 Report Posted October 10, 2006 Justin thats an awesome looking faceplate for the amp
kevin gilmore Posted October 10, 2006 Report Posted October 10, 2006 Not even close. My pic's are always 4000 x 3000 pixels cropped from 14mp. jpelg should be eating some shit shortly...
justin Posted October 11, 2006 Report Posted October 11, 2006 Here's a pic of the front panel with the wood trim. I saved it as a TIFF otherwise the JPEG compression dulls all the color in the wood. This wood has only been sprayed with clear laquer to get an idea of how it will look, the real ones are being polished by hand (tomorrow) http://www.headamp.com/aristaeus_front.tif
909 Posted October 11, 2006 Report Posted October 11, 2006 Wow... Those parts look beautiful and that wood is just gorgeous looking.
tkam Posted October 18, 2006 Report Posted October 18, 2006 Looks nice, should be interesting to hear your impressions on it and of course how it compares to the competition.

pabbi1 Posted November 7, 2006 Report Posted November 7, 2006 Well, the EA-6 has landed - Homeland Security is definitely keeping us safe from Canadian headphone amps... But, all seems well so far... still acclimating. Preliminary: Outstanding on accoustic cuts (Dire straits - Why Worry), and not quite ready to rock (Skynyrd, Devo, Jet). Next up: Allison Krauss, Janes Addiction, Velvet Revolver, NIN... we'll see. Proceeding with the Blue Hawaii build so far, as I haven't heard anything that says 'Don't bother'. Of course, i didn't hear that with the ES-1 (Rob, aka bahamaman) or the HEV90 (McManus) either.
grawk Posted November 7, 2006 Report Posted November 7, 2006 Somehow I bet the duct tape wasn't DHS provided. aerius Posted November 7, 2006 Report Posted November 7, 2006 http://home.swbell.net/pabbi/100_1962.jpg Interesting...I've seen similar tubes in those exact same boxes at my local surplus store. Hmmm....
pabbi1 Posted November 7, 2006 Report Posted November 7, 2006 Yep, not totally thrilled with the exemplary selection of Realistic tubes.... and wondering if some better glass will sound better? 1x12BQ6 5x6BQ6 4x6CG7 2x12AT7 It was nice of Customs to take several tubes completely out of the boxes for me, to save all that unpacking time. But, there are places this sounds absolutely spectacular (this amp LOVES NIN - Pretty Hate Machine)
philodox Posted November 7, 2006 Report Posted November 7, 2006 According to Peter you shouldn't bother, but definatley try it out for your own piece of mind.
hirsch Posted November 7, 2006 Report Posted November 7, 2006 According to Peter you shouldn't bother, but definatley try it out for your own piece of mind. Several manufacturers have said that tube rolling will not affect their amps. Ray Samuels and Helmut Becker (AudioValve) come to mind. Both were wrong. Maybe Peter is right, and different tubes will not affect his amps. There's always a first time for this claim to be true.
philodox Posted November 7, 2006 Report Posted November 7, 2006 Good point, I will definately be trying tube rolling on my amp... just going to keep an open mind. I'm confident that if there is a change I will still notice it regardless of what Peter tells me, but by the same token I don't want to convince myself that there will be a change and imagine something.
pabbi1 Posted November 7, 2006 Report Posted November 7, 2006 Good news (for me) is that the choice of tubes seems to have more reasonable prices than the more trendy ones, so rolling won't be as painful as in the past (Wheatfield HA-2). Or, maybe I'm just being snobby... but, yes, new glass in inbound.
