Absorbine_Sr Posted March 10, 2012 Report Posted March 10, 2012 (edited) I might need to mail order me some bacon I'll report on the Father's after we get it this week. We'll be doing a breakfast for dinner night when it arrives, and probably bacon sarnies for the first F1 race next weekend. Edited March 10, 2012 by Absorbine_Sr
Absorbine_Sr Posted March 10, 2012 Report Posted March 10, 2012 ^^^ Actually, sardines was due to auto-correct. I meant bacon sarnies.
kevin gilmore Posted March 12, 2012 Report Posted March 12, 2012 I should stop watching the cooking channel. matzoh balls wrapped in bacon. Going to have to try this.
skullguise Posted March 12, 2012 Report Posted March 12, 2012 ^^ Kosher bacon again? Will have to recommend this for Passover at my dad's.....
spritzer Posted March 12, 2012 Report Posted March 12, 2012 Knowing Kevin he's not too worried about it being kosher or not...
kevin gilmore Posted March 12, 2012 Report Posted March 12, 2012 One of the women i work with is full up kosher. 2 of everything in the kitchen. Full up religious too. But when she goes out for dinner she will have ribs or things with bacon in them. I find this a massive contradiction. So i don't keep kosher. Besides which you usually cannot get kosher prime beef.
jvlgato Posted March 14, 2012 Report Posted March 14, 2012 My High School GF's family kept a strict kosher kitchen. She generally kept kosher outside her home, too, but wasn't as strict as her parents. If she were to do anything to disrupt the family's kosher home kitchen, then she would destroy her entire family's kitchen. If she had a cheeseburger while out (she didn't, but used this example to explain the situation), she wouldn't be kosher for herself, but at least she didn't then screw up her whole family. I don't think it's all that uncommon, I seem to remember the conversation came up a few times in my childhood/teenhood. Not saying I agree with it, just that it didn't seem so uncommon. http://www.thejc.com/judaism/rabbi-i-have-a-problem/36263/is-it-hypocritical-keep-kosher-home-eat-non-kosher-out Oh, and I suppose that dating me wasn't all that kosher, either.
jvlgato Posted March 14, 2012 Report Posted March 14, 2012 Damn. I'm getting hungry again. I'm going to look for a snack!
Grahame Posted March 20, 2012 Report Posted March 20, 2012 A new quest in SF ... http://www.baconbaconsf.com/the-food/
HeadphoneAddict Posted March 20, 2012 Report Posted March 20, 2012 It's okay, but not out of this world. I'm sticking with their beef jerky.
Absorbine_Sr Posted March 20, 2012 Report Posted March 20, 2012 Reporting back on the Father's bacon. I ordered the hickory smoked and the smoke aroma is very strong but not overpowering when eating it. It has a wonderful smoky flavour. It is however way too salty for both of us. When eating it alone with eggs the salt was overpowering. However, in a bacon sarnie, the salt is offset by the HP sauce and it was quite enjoyable. We plan to soak the bacon prior to frying the next time we want to eat it solo to remove some of the excess salt. Overall, good bacon, just be prepared for the salt if that is not your thing.
skullguise Posted March 20, 2012 Report Posted March 20, 2012 Picked up one of these Sunday, tried it last night, not bad at all.....nothing is overdone (chocolate, bacon, or salt). Chocolate quality is pretty good, and the bacon taste is subtle but good as well.
n_maher Posted March 20, 2012 Report Posted March 20, 2012 This thread reminds me that I have a pound of bacon from a local pig at home that needs cooking. Damnit, I'm hungy.
