Asr Posted November 22, 2010 Report Posted November 22, 2010 Anne Sophie-Mutter with the New York Philharmonic performing Mozart's Violin Concertos 1, 3, & 5, and Wolfgang Rihm's Lichtes Spiel. I don't know if it was because of where I was sitting (2nd level up towards the back) or the acoustics in general, but I was a bit underwhelmed by her performance. The sound lacked a degree of intensity IMO. Technically she was amazing but I wasn't really "feeling" Mozart from her. I also caught two extremely minor flubs on her part, or at least they seemed like flubs. Fantastic concert though and it was great to finally see her after hearing about her so much.
jinp6301 Posted November 22, 2010 Report Posted November 22, 2010 He's been like that for a while now. Yea, I kinda knew that but wow, I didnt think he would be REALLY that bad.
Audiofiler Posted December 1, 2010 Report Posted December 1, 2010 The Black Angels With Black Mountain - Clubhouse, AZ I was surprised to see The Black Angels open for Black Mountain VS the other way around. We bought the tickets presuming that the 'Angels' were headlining. Both bands played great, though I wish the set was longer for the 'Angels'. The Black Angels are a great, great live act. The sound was a bit off for the first song or two, however, they made the appropriate adjustments and it was dead-on for the rest of the show. They closed with 'Young Men Dead', awesome. I was disappointed that they cut-off the transcending end to 'Yellow Elevator #2' and did not play 'True Believers'. Those are both off their newest release, "Phosphene Dream", which the band played most of that night. Great overall show. I spoke with lead singer Alex Maas at length after their show and he explained that they were having issues with the live production on the end of 'Elevator #2' and in playing 'True Believers'. According to Maas, Black Mountain has the same booking agent as they do, so he too was not sure why they opened. Oh well. He also indicated that he and the band pleaded with the tour manager to play longer than their opening slot warranted. Black Mountain's new album sounded really nice live. It sounded much better and livelier than the album. They did not play enough from their self-titled release, though. I like the first two albums better than their newest album. Overall, I am bigger 'Angels' fan so I would have appreciated another 15-20 minutes of material to their set.
MASantos Posted December 2, 2010 Report Posted December 2, 2010 Got tickets for Herbie Hancock, on the 7th December! Should be great!
postjack Posted December 2, 2010 Report Posted December 2, 2010 upcoming shows (in defiance of thread title [maybe we should rename this "The Live Music Thread"]): Prince 12/29 Phish 12/30 Phish 12/31 Phish 1/1 All at MSG! I am so ready for this trip.
Audiofiler Posted December 3, 2010 Report Posted December 3, 2010 Saw Andre Rieu at Jobing.com Arena with his 55-piece Johann Strauss Orchestra in Glendale, AZ. Traffic was a bear as the MNF game was next door VS the 'Niners but it was well worth it. Amazing atmosphere and music. What a show. If you have the chance to see Andre Rieu, go for it. I have been wanting to see him for a long time. Sorry for the poor quality pictures.
Voltron Posted December 3, 2010 Report Posted December 3, 2010 [maybe we should rename this "The Live Music Thread"] AGREED! Some cool moderator could make that happen, no?
Dusty Chalk Posted December 3, 2010 Report Posted December 3, 2010 Done. (My cool quotient needed work.) I'll take the "was..." part off in a month or so.
Voltron Posted December 3, 2010 Report Posted December 3, 2010 You are now the COOLEST MOD (of the Moment).
postjack Posted December 3, 2010 Report Posted December 3, 2010 You are now the COOLEST MOD (of the Moment). x2! the other mods have some serious catching up to do.
Dusty Chalk Posted December 4, 2010 Report Posted December 4, 2010 It's only because Todd is so quiet, but he's still cooler.
Bigguy Posted December 10, 2010 Report Posted December 10, 2010 Experienced Roger Waters performing The Wall tuesday night. Awesome show.
Voltron Posted December 10, 2010 Report Posted December 10, 2010 That would be a great experience Lloyd.
Voltron Posted December 10, 2010 Report Posted December 10, 2010 You were probably sharpening something at the time, which is cool in it's own way.
Dusty Chalk Posted December 11, 2010 Report Posted December 11, 2010 ...modmom...I believe "mod-o'-the-mo'" is the correct contraction. And I believe you were in Chicago drinking someone else's cognac.
jpelg Posted December 16, 2010 Report Posted December 16, 2010 Cyndi Lauper last night at the Tarrytown Music Hall. Great show.
postjack Posted December 16, 2010 Report Posted December 16, 2010 just bought tickets to see the Funky Meters at Tipitinas, NOLA, Jan 14th. Pretty excited, next year is their 30th anniversary.

Absorbine_Sr Posted December 16, 2010 Report Posted December 16, 2010 Bought tickets to see Jimmy Webb in March. MacArthur Park bitches!
Voltron Posted February 11, 2011 Report Posted February 11, 2011 Tonight is Trombone Shorty with Los Amigos Invisibles at the Fillmore, and Monday night is The Decemberists at The Fox Theater.
acidbasement Posted February 16, 2011 Report Posted February 16, 2011 Just saw the Finnish Metal Tour last night in Edmonton, featuring Ensiferum and Finntroll. Both bands brought it forth, and I'm still a wee bit transcended. Could be the lack of sleep I guess, because my kids got me up this morning at the same time they usually do.
Asr Posted February 22, 2011 Report Posted February 22, 2011 (edited) Hilary Hahn (violin) & Valentina Lisitsa (piano) playing Tartini, Beethoven, Ives, Bach, & Antheil, here in CO. They were both really good, was a great concert. Hahn's skill was awesome and Lisitsa was almost lyrical on the piano. There were 3 encores too which was an unexpected bonus - 1 solo by Hahn, 1 solo by Lisitsa, and 1 duet with both. There was an autograph session after the concert so I got to "meet" them too, which was nice considering my seat was too far from the stage to see their faces. Got an autographed copy of Hahn's Bach Concertos. Edited February 22, 2011 by Asr
Dusty Chalk Posted February 22, 2011 Report Posted February 22, 2011 I am envious. I really need to follow her concert schedule so that I can see her live.
Asr Posted February 24, 2011 Report Posted February 24, 2011 (edited) I am envious. I really need to follow her concert schedule so that I can see her live. You're in Maryland, right? Incidentally the last stop on Hahn's current tour is in Bethesda on the 27th, probably still time to get a ticket. http://hilaryhahn.com/on-tour/ Edited February 24, 2011 by Asr
Dusty Chalk Posted February 24, 2011 Report Posted February 24, 2011 Oh Holy Shit, Strathmore is practically walking distance (alright, not really -- more like two miles)...I'm going if I don't have any conflicts. I'll have to bring my SACD's. Thanks! I probably would not have looked it up myself in time.
