deepak Posted December 29, 2008 Report Posted December 29, 2008 I'd like to see Keiji Haino and Zorn live. Quote
Dusty Chalk Posted December 29, 2008 Report Posted December 29, 2008 Do you know who were the VERY special surprise guests? Quote
diebenkorn Posted December 29, 2008 Report Posted December 29, 2008 As you can imagine, it was totally fucking insane. I got to see Zorn play with Dave Douglas at Tonic awhile back, I have never seen a musician like Zorn that put everything they had into their playing. Quote
hungrych Posted January 26, 2009 Report Posted January 26, 2009 Mos Def & The Experiment (Robert Glasper, Casey Benjamin, a bassist I forgot the name of who was subbing, and the fucking amazing drummer Chris Dave) at The Blue Note NYC DAMN! This was one of the best shows I've ever been to. Mos Def's band is flat-out incredible; they're tighter than almost any band I've ever seen and have a great sense of dynamics. There was a Radiohead song (forgot the name), some furious jamming, that poem from the inauguration which was 100 times better coming from Mos Def with music, and an epic version of De La Soul's Stakes Is High. They've completely suceeded in bringing together Jazz and Hip-Hop. If you get a chance to see them, do it. It was even worth standing for 5 hours straight... Quote
jinp6301 Posted January 26, 2009 Report Posted January 26, 2009 that sounds fucking amazing. I wish I went or even knew about it Quote
laxx Posted January 26, 2009 Report Posted January 26, 2009 Mos Def is awesome. Debating on taking my friends offer to see Metallica next weekend. Metallica or Super Bowl... Quote
humanflyz Posted February 9, 2009 Report Posted February 9, 2009 Saw Cat Power last night at the 9:30 Club in DC. Damn, what a fucking incredible voice, and I've gained a much better appreciation for her band now than I had when I was just listening to the studio albums. Quote
Dreadhead Posted February 9, 2009 Report Posted February 9, 2009 Didn't know about this thread. Ann Sophie Mutter, Andre Previn and some bassist along with the Kennedy Center Orchestra at the Kennedy Center. That woman is awe inspiring with a violin. Quote

That was incredible too. Quote
Dreadhead Posted February 9, 2009 Report Posted February 9, 2009 Did you see Joshua Bell at Strathmore? That was incredible too. Nope no such luck. Generally my wife and I stick to the KC (we attend more ballet and opera than classical) because we like to take the Metro into DC but I'll have take a look at what's going on out there. Quote
Dusty Chalk Posted February 9, 2009 Report Posted February 9, 2009 Did you see Joshua Bell at Strathmore? That was incredible too.Goddamnit, tell me about these things! I would've gone to that. Joshua Bell is probably my second favorite living violinist. (J/K...it's not your fault I've slipped in keeping track of concert schedules and the like...) Quote
Absorbine_Sr Posted February 19, 2009 Report Posted February 19, 2009 Posting from the iPhone. Currently sitting in the first balcony of the Lyric Opera waiting to see Pagliacci and Cavalleria Rusticana. A night at the opera! Yay! Quote

postjack Posted March 7, 2009 Report Posted March 7, 2009 Phish 3/6/09 Hampton, VA I haven't seen them but several times, but it was the best phish I've ever seen. incredible set list, super tight playing, positive crowd, unreal energy. I'm happy I was there. Tonight: Morrissey, Atlanta, Variety Playhouse. Can't wait to have a huge messy cheeeeebugga from Vortex! Quote
grawk Posted March 7, 2009 Report Posted March 7, 2009 But was it worth the $1000 you could have gotten for your ticket? Quote
gauche Posted March 9, 2009 Report Posted March 9, 2009 Last Night, 3/8/09: Stanley Clarke and Chikurin Junmai @ Yoshi's Oakland. Quote
Voltron Posted March 9, 2009 Report Posted March 9, 2009 He was great the last time at Yoshi's, but this time was "solo acoustic" so I wasn't sure what that was going to be. Quote
