Hopstretch
Diebenkorn posted this earlier in the For Sale Elsewhere thread. Though it might merit one of its own. They're definitely trying to tick all the boxes on the wish list, and then some. Will be interesting to see what the implementation is like. If the USB input was asynch, they would probably say so I guess.
postjack
such a stupid name. however, they were very responsible to my email queries in the past.

dreamwhisper
yeah stupid name but for their first DAC they sure know what they're doing interesting, the main man in the company works with Rick Cullen of Cullen Circuits
postjack
by all accounts, their products have all been top notch.
Hopstretch
such a stupid name. Wyred4Sound or DAC-1 or both? Always makes me think of these guys.
Dusty Chalk
I2S HDMI, really? That's a mistake that hasn't even fully been realized yet, and they're already perpetuating it? They should do HDMI HDMI, and make it decrypt DVD-A and SACD. But just in discrete stereo. They should have a little red LED that gets triggered by Dolby Digital or any of the DTS standards. (Or decode them, but only as an option, as I think that would incur too much expense.)
cetoole
but for their first DAC they sure know what they're doing What makes you say this? All that I have seen is that they are able to read the forums and see what people tend to like to hear right now.
mypasswordis
^ Ouch. The fact that they say upgradable digital and analog boards makes it seem as if they didn't try their best the first time around just so they can sell upgrade boards further down the line. Which is probably true. No way in hell my poor self is going to buy a mediocre DAC for $1200+ just to have to pay to upgrade them myself later on. I only said it was probably true, which I still think is the case. Everything was purely speculation on my part.
dreamwhisper
I think that I suck. I think that there's a chance that this DAC might not suck. yeah, I meant to say the manufacturers seemed to know what they are doing. i would have to hear it to provide an opinion
Dusty Chalk
I think deliberately planning a modular design is nothing less than just plain foresighted, I got no problem with them admitting that they can't possibly know all the answers -- that is the way of the scientist/engineer. It's effectively making it tweakable, too.
melomaniac
any early adopters of the STi? yes, I'm still looking for potent integrated amps...
Hopstretch
Peripherally related, here are some pictures of their newish preamp for general reference.
Beefy
Nice looking relay attenuator, and an awful lot of Muse ES caps!
n_maher
Always surprises me to see high-end preamps like that not use even simple shielding on the transformer.
minimus
Well, I own one of their well-reviewed class D amps, the ST250, and it makes my stereo rig sound like a really loud cell phone playing ringtones. Regardless of how their DAC actually sounds, I am sure that 6moons and Positive Feedback will gush about it almost as much as they gushed about the W4S amps and preamp. morphsci
Maybe you should stop playing ringtones then.
swt61
I agree with Dusty on both counts...It'd be nice to squeeze a stereo signal from SACD through HDMI (I would actually use my Oppo for music then), and being upgradeable is just good foresight. valesina
yeah stupid name but for their first DAC they sure know what they're doing interesting, the main man in the company works with Rick Cullen of Cullen Circuits Dumb name, dumb-looking box, but I bet it sounds fantastic! For some time my favourite 'semi-affordable' DAC was Rick Cullen's modified PS Audio DLIII. Looks like we're creeping closer to the release date, pre-orders being taken . . . Wyred 4 Sound DAC-
