Should I Get an HD600?

Yeah, but this was in the early days, when most people were not amplifying properly.  And yes, you're right, most headphones "scale" -- they respond well to increasingly better amplification.  I think the HD600 are worse than most (in the same way I think the VTGs and the Sony MDR-7506/-V6 are better than most, in that they scale very little).

The reason I like VTGs and JH13s is they sound basically as good straight from my iphone as from most amps.

Yeah, that's what I was trying to say about the VTGs.  I probably should not have said, "...in the same way..." when I really meant "...the same, only different..."

High impedance, relatively low sensitivity.

Yeah, but...it has to be across the entire frequency spectrum, as both impedance and sensitivity are both frequency dependent.
