Dusty Chalk Posted October 30, 2009 Report Posted October 30, 2009 You stay the hell away from mah QUADs!!1Did I not mention they were already spoken for? No, you did not. Thanks for getting me on Nate's bad side. Nate -- if I had a clue they were already spoken for by you, I never would have said anything. I'm sure I can get them from Lane Mart when I'm ready.

Guest sacd lover Posted October 30, 2009 Report Posted October 30, 2009 How about this: AudiogoN ForSale: McCormack Micro Power Drive Seller has two listed. If one isn't enough juice you could run them mono. The Monarchy blows the Micro away. I have owned both.
morphsci Posted October 30, 2009 Report Posted October 30, 2009 The Monarchy blows the Micro away. I have owned both. Unless you upgrade the Micro's power supply, then the Monarchy goes into the corner and sulks.
Hopstretch Posted October 30, 2009 Author Report Posted October 30, 2009 I'd suggest trying the YBA Integr
n_maher Posted October 30, 2009 Report Posted October 30, 2009 I'd love to use an integrated and get rid of the pre-amp, but can't figure out how to run a parallel headphone rig in that case. Sure, lots of integrateds have tape loops, but very few appear to let you mute just the speaker taps. Am I being thick and missing an obvious configuration solution? If it's a true loop out it would be non-volume dependent, i.e. muting the speakers would be as easy as turning down the integrated. If it's a preamp output you're semi-screwed. Of course you could also just split the output of your source (less than ideal) or get a switch box but I swear we've been down this road before with your speaker rig and that you had a switch box already?
Hopstretch Posted October 30, 2009 Author Report Posted October 30, 2009 I swear we've been down this road before with your speaker rig and that you had a switch box already? Please consult my signature. That's good news about loop outs, though!
grawk Posted October 30, 2009 Report Posted October 30, 2009 Every integrated I've ever seen lets you turn off the speaker outs...
Hopstretch Posted October 30, 2009 Author Report Posted October 30, 2009 Every integrated I've ever seen lets you turn off the speaker outs... Are you talking about a simple mute function? Because, usually, that also mutes any other output.
swt61 Posted October 30, 2009 Report Posted October 30, 2009 Please consult my signature. That's good news about loop outs, though! My integrated has a pre-amp out. That would be a good solution IMO.
grawk Posted October 30, 2009 Report Posted October 30, 2009 Are you talking about a simple mute function? Because, usually, that also mutes any other output. Nope, mine have all had buttons to turn on/off the A and B speaker outputs, or a switch to pick "Off/A/B/A+B"
Hopstretch Posted October 30, 2009 Author Report Posted October 30, 2009 Hmm. The only one I've been able to find that does that is the Simaudio 3.3, which has a headphone jack and hence an explicit need for it. But it's pricy and has a fair bit of stuff I don't need. Like a headphone jack! Thanks all! Lots of good ideas. Off to A'gon.
Torpedo Posted October 30, 2009 Report Posted October 30, 2009 Some pics will help As you can see, there's a selector to choose the source that will be amplified and "sent" to the speakers outputs (you have two, though not selectable separately, one has lower output impedance than the other, so you can find which one matches better your speakers). The other selector, labeled "record", lets you decide which source will go through the tape out. So you might be even sending one signal through the speakers and a different one to the headphone amp or recorder. In this one you can see all the inputs available -plenty of them- and the tape in and out. Just one tape loop. Also the speakers outputs, one with binding posts suitable for bananas or spades, and the other ones just for bananas. For the porn fetishists, one of the insides: Like Nate said, you can turn the volume completely down, so muting the speakers, and then listening whatever you select for the tape out, or choosing an empty input. It doesn't have a mute function as such. The tape out should work with the amp off, but it's intended to be an "always on" unit. This is one of those things which don't sound very well until they've been on for "some time" This amp errs more to the "musical" sounding side of things than to the analytical one, but I wouldn't say it's not mainly neutral. The DT is the model to look for. Forget the "normal" non-DT units or more modern ones.
veloaudio Posted November 1, 2009 Report Posted November 1, 2009 These look like they could work. AudiogoN ForSale: Red Dragon AMP-1 Anyone heard or heard of Red Dragon Audio before?
DigiPete Posted November 1, 2009 Report Posted November 1, 2009 Odyssey Audio Stratos SE amp hosted in a Khartago case
feckn_eejit Posted November 1, 2009 Report Posted November 1, 2009 You know I am a total Nelson Pass slut................... but.......... YBA =
swt61 Posted November 1, 2009 Report Posted November 1, 2009 You know I am a total Nelson Pass slut................... Nelson says kind of kinky too.
Hopstretch Posted January 8, 2010 Author Report Posted January 8, 2010 (edited) Back in the hunt for an integrated. Little more urgency now that I actually have some nice speakers and nothing to drive them with. Anyone have any experience with the Creek Destiny? There are a couple knocking around on A'gon and I see it comes highly recommended by LobsterFink himself as well as the usual suspects at Stereophile and TAS. Other random thoughts -- Unison Unico Primo, Primare I30? And please do ping me if you see an Integre DT or LFD Zero on offer anywhere else. Edited January 8, 2010 by Hopstretch
deepak Posted January 8, 2010 Report Posted January 8, 2010 The AX-7e is another great integrated. I only heard it with one pair of speakers though.

deepak Posted January 8, 2010 Report Posted January 8, 2010 Wait, it wasn't an AX7e you made the offer on, I thought that was an Ayre power amp? Fuck I'm a mega asshole if it was
penger Posted January 8, 2010 Report Posted January 8, 2010 Perhaps something from Virtue Audio? Dunno if it can do your Harbeths justice, but they certainly have no problems driving my ERA Design 5's. I have the 2009 version of the Two.
