swt61 Posted March 22, 2012 Report Posted March 22, 2012 The writer says it allows you to press your own records, which is completely wrong. It cuts records, doesn't press them. From that cutting a pressing could be made, but not with that machine. Also you're only going to get as the good as the source material, so unless you want to create a duplicate of a treasured vinyl album, I don't really see the point. An MP3 cut into vinyl is still going to sound as good or bad as the original MP3.
Wmcmanus Posted March 22, 2012 Report Posted March 22, 2012 (edited) What?!?!!? No 4X!?!!?! Where's the respect? This must be the war against fat vinyl lovers! http://www.stevehoff...ad.php?t=279770 Great T-shirt though. Edited March 22, 2012 by Wmcmanus

ironbut Posted April 4, 2012 Report Posted April 4, 2012 (edited) I can see the race to be the first one to get their turntable running at 3rpm exactly will be brutal! Many lives will be lost. I have an old Denon DD table with a good bit of speed adjustment. I would think that using a Variac on a table like that should work? Edited April 4, 2012 by ironbut

The speed control is all done by computers. Running the TT on a variac will not get enough voltage to the regulators.... Much better to use a record clamp on top of your DD TT to drive a belt drive TT.
ironbut Posted April 4, 2012 Report Posted April 4, 2012 Thanks Ari,.. not that I was really planning to buy the record but good to know! BTW Good ta hear from you!

deepak Posted April 28, 2012 Report Posted April 28, 2012 Anyone have suggestions for a phono-stage with a true balanced output? I'm considering either XOno or Ayre PX-5 right now, but leaning more towards the Ayre since I found the Ono a touch on the dry side in my system.

deepak Posted April 28, 2012 Report Posted April 28, 2012 XP-15! More than I'd like to spend I think I will be going Ayre unless anyone has any other suggestions in the ~ $1500 range.
luvdunhill Posted April 28, 2012 Report Posted April 28, 2012 I respect that. I have heard the most improvement out of my phono stage upgrades. NP says the new topology is a very nice step up, hence my curiosity.
blessingx Posted April 28, 2012 Report Posted April 28, 2012 I have heard the most improvement out of my phono stage upgrades. I've heard this from a few people including the person who sold me the my current table. Good to hear it confirmed.
Voltron Posted April 28, 2012 Report Posted April 28, 2012 More than I'd like to spend I think I will be going Ayre unless anyone has any other suggestions in the ~ $1500 range. Please get the Ayre so you can tell me how it is. I have been thinking of getting it for awhile to simplify the main rig with all Ayre components.
blessingx Posted May 17, 2012 Report Posted May 17, 2012 (edited) Vinyl newbie question - A new old transport has been keeping me busy on the digital side and after a few weeks of non-use my vinyl has crazy sibilance. Have tried tube changes and other settings on phono stage, slid around tracking weight, azimuth looks good (though will investigate more). Anything else to consider before I start to worry about the cart (which seems less likely as occured from non-use, but still...)? BTW, this if for an Ace Space. Edited May 17, 2012 by blessingx
Torpedo Posted May 17, 2012 Report Posted May 17, 2012 Have you checked VTA? Seems one of the few things which may change. If the screws holding the arm's height are a bit loose, VTA might have changed. The other dreadful chance is that the cleaning lady has "worked" on the cart. BTW, the record you listened was one you know well and you're sure wasn't sibilant before? Maybe listening to other LPs you don't find it that sibilant.
luvdunhill Posted May 18, 2012 Report Posted May 18, 2012 hm, perhaps let the phono stage warm up and try then?
blessingx Posted May 19, 2012 Report Posted May 19, 2012 Thanks for the advice guys. Finally had time to reset things and I'm guessing it was the azimuth. Relieved. Does make me wonder if I should have left Regaworld. And the album was the reissue of Shelby Lynne's Just a Little Lovin'.
swt61 Posted May 19, 2012 Report Posted May 19, 2012 Reminds me to get some Shelby Lynne music. Meant to do that some time ago.
deepak Posted May 19, 2012 Report Posted May 19, 2012 How did you adjust azimuth on the AceSpace? I thought the only way is to add spacers to the headshell.
Torpedo Posted May 19, 2012 Report Posted May 19, 2012 Azimuth, as in lateral needle tilt, can't be changed on the AceSpace unless you use rings, spacers or similar tricks. My guess is that he changed VTA.
deepak Posted May 19, 2012 Report Posted May 19, 2012 This is a trick I learned on the Pink Fish Media forum, but I assumed Ric didn't do this "mod". If you apply some force to the black piece that holds the counterweight it will give, and you can rotate it left and right to adjust azimuth. Similar to how the VPI JMW tonearms do it. My cart's azimuth is electrically aligned at the neutral position so I have not tried this.
Torpedo Posted May 19, 2012 Report Posted May 19, 2012 That must be exerting some vigorous force on it. Not sure I'd try that on my arm. Fortunately it's not needed
blessingx Posted May 20, 2012 Report Posted May 20, 2012 I'm an idiot. What do you call the clockwise/counterclockwise adjustment of the headshell?
luvdunhill Posted May 20, 2012 Report Posted May 20, 2012 What is known as Zenith? Did I win the Daily Double?
