jinp6301 Posted October 18, 2009 Report Posted October 18, 2009 Ooh, I actually never saw that before. You guys and your fancy dongles and shit
boomana Posted October 18, 2009 Author Report Posted October 18, 2009 I just ordered the A2s from OneCall for $170 (open box), and the little stands for $30. Should have them sometime this coming week. Thanks for the suggestions, guys. Hopefully this will do it for me.
Dusty Chalk Posted October 19, 2009 Report Posted October 19, 2009 Just FYI -- if you stack them, do tweeter-to-tweeter so that you don't get weird cancellations.
HeadphoneAddict Posted October 19, 2009 Report Posted October 19, 2009 I've been using the Audioengine A2 for a few weeks with my Macbook Pro, and I am happy with them. They have a 1/8" input and an RCA input, with a volume control on the back in case your source does not adjust volume. They definitely improve using some kind of stand to get them up above the desktop. And they sound nice with my iMod/PVcap dock as well, or at least better than using a pair of Velodyne Deco satellites via a Travagans Green 5 watt amp. The bass is not bad although I would like a little more treble presence - but for the $170 that I paid I am pleased.
boomana Posted October 19, 2009 Author Report Posted October 19, 2009 Just FYI -- if you stack them, do tweeter-to-tweeter so that you don't get weird cancellations. Why would I want to stack them?
Dusty Chalk Posted October 19, 2009 Report Posted October 19, 2009 Why would I want to stack them?Space issues. But if you don't, then never mind.
grawk Posted October 21, 2009 Report Posted October 21, 2009 Yamaha's PDX-60 wireless iPod / iPhone dock adds yAired to the lexicon
boomana Posted October 21, 2009 Author Report Posted October 21, 2009 because stereo separation is of the devil. I'm okay with that.
boomana Posted October 24, 2009 Author Report Posted October 24, 2009 They came today, and although I've only set up them up on an ironing board so far just to see if they work, I think they'll do just fine. I'm going into the office in about an hour, so I'll set things up and see how they really sound. What's nice is that they're pretty small, but have a bit of heft to them. Each speaker comes in a soft bag, so you could travel with them if you wanted. Even from their ironing board perch, they sound better than the one-box ipod speakers I was checking out last weekend, so thanks again for the recommendation.
Dusty Chalk Posted October 24, 2009 Report Posted October 24, 2009 Good, I'm glad the sound is adequate.
swt61 Posted October 25, 2009 Report Posted October 25, 2009 Cool! I think that was the best approach too. More versatile as well.
boomana Posted October 25, 2009 Author Report Posted October 25, 2009 I ended up not taking them into the office today, as I had too much other stuff to bring, but I have them set up in my bedroom and am listening to them now. They don't cut it as bookshelf speakers, but I can already tell I'm going to be happy with them on my desk in the office.
boomana Posted October 27, 2009 Author Report Posted October 27, 2009 Bah. I'm not so happy with them now that I'm listening to them all day. There is a real lack of treble and some serious mid-bass bloom that's downright annoying. They're still workable until something better comes along, but the search continues. If you have any more ideas........
jinp6301 Posted October 27, 2009 Report Posted October 27, 2009 Are you elevating the speakers? Stands make a huge difference with these.
swt61 Posted October 27, 2009 Report Posted October 27, 2009 That's a tough one Vicki, given your size restrictions. I'd guess the next suggestion would be to go to Guitar Center and check out some of the smaller active monitors.
jinp6301 Posted October 27, 2009 Report Posted October 27, 2009 Yup. Have stands. Besides EQ, you really cant improve on these
guzziguy Posted October 27, 2009 Report Posted October 27, 2009 Getting quality music at work is what originally drove me to headphones. Are you sure that discreetly wearing earbuds wouldn't be acceptable. It would be hard for anybody to even see them as long as you only wore them in your office. Tell your boss that it's to override the bad music from the speaker.
Hopstretch Posted October 27, 2009 Report Posted October 27, 2009 Honestly, I'd suggest living with them for a week or so. The ears and brain adjust.
Dusty Chalk Posted October 27, 2009 Report Posted October 27, 2009 Quad 12L actives and an ILOD cable. EDIT: Scratch that, I suspect the bloom is even worse on these.
The Monkey Posted October 28, 2009 Report Posted October 28, 2009 heh, I was going to post the same, but I didn't. You win the evil points. But you're also right.
The Monkey Posted October 28, 2009 Report Posted October 28, 2009 Or those damn Little Maggies that haven't seemed to hit the market, yet.
