swt61 Posted October 14, 2009 Report Posted October 14, 2009 The shipping cost on the F5 would be prohibitive, it's frickin' heavy. Not to mention that it's case is not fully assembled.
cetoole Posted October 14, 2009 Report Posted October 14, 2009 Don't you know, you are supposed to ship F5s partially unassembled by just tossing them in a box. They dont need padding or any of that fluff. Heck, probably dont even need a box.
mypasswordis Posted October 14, 2009 Report Posted October 14, 2009 Ah yeah, that's no good. And there's no telling what shipping will do to it, especially if it isn't cased yet. The Hafler and the Yamaha will do a decent enough job in driving everything, I'm sure. Dusty, tubes are good if the output impedance is low enough... Edit: lol @ Colin's comment. Saves on weight costs.

Saves on weight costs. Yeah, tubes can do just fine. The mentioned spud would have about 4ohm output impedance, plus the DCR of the transformer secondary (another 4ohm), and 375mA max current output.

NightWoundsTime Posted October 14, 2009 Report Posted October 14, 2009 When did you order those, Colin? Mine should be on the way to Tampa, if not there already. Matt, do you want to borrow them for a while? Just saw this. When they show up I'm excited to have a quick listen, even if my MPX3 won't be too happy with their 32 ohm goodness. Of course I could just pretend I never saw this, and since Wayne has given me no other form of notification that there are expensive headphones landing on my door soon I could just claim total ignorance on the matter.
Edwood Posted October 14, 2009 Report Posted October 14, 2009 I talked to Fang and am probably going to have the demo HE-5 shipped to me in the last week of October. Halloween Mini-Meet in Los Angeles, anyone? -Ed

guzziguy Posted October 14, 2009 Report Posted October 14, 2009 Halloween Mini-Meet in Los Angeles, anyone? How much do we have to pay up front?
Guest sachu Posted October 14, 2009 Report Posted October 14, 2009 i gotz me a pair of HE-5s waiting at home..
Edwood Posted October 15, 2009 Report Posted October 15, 2009 Fuck nuts. Fang can't send a demo unit to me because it's going to be hogged for that Head-Fi magazine? Does there really need to be a Head-Fi magazine?
aRc Posted October 15, 2009 Report Posted October 15, 2009 Let me check with iPodBJ first. You'se Buddy:chair:

swt61 Posted October 15, 2009 Report Posted October 15, 2009 There's a magazine? Dear God please don't let me happen across the centerfold!
spritzer Posted October 15, 2009 Report Posted October 15, 2009 There's a magazine? Yup. by far the most stupid idea on HF in a long while.
n_maher Posted October 15, 2009 Report Posted October 15, 2009 Yup. by far the most stupid idea on HF in a long while. Heaven forbid they try and have a little fun with it. I'm at least interested to see what they do with it and hope it fares better than the podcast idea.
Dusty Chalk Posted October 15, 2009 Report Posted October 15, 2009 There's a magazine? It's only a bad idea, because my memory of Jude's ability to actually finish (and post) reviews...well, sucked, not to mince words. Has he gotten better about them?
Fitz Posted October 15, 2009 Report Posted October 15, 2009 Dear God please don't let me happen across the centerfold! Tyll's really outdone himself this time.
mypasswordis Posted October 15, 2009 Report Posted October 15, 2009 I'd pay to read Patrick82's blogs, so this may turn out to be quite good.
Torpedo Posted October 15, 2009 Report Posted October 15, 2009 The magazine as such, probably isn't a bad idea. Entertaining nonetheless. It all depends on what kind of papers do it, if opinions will be accurate and honest, and how much advertising pressure is allowed biasing the writings. If they include divulging articles about electronics, acoustics, psycho-acoustics... it can even become an useful resource for many people.
jinp6301 Posted October 15, 2009 Report Posted October 15, 2009 It seems like a good idea for people who are interested in headphone hifi but dont have to the time to check head-fi all the time
