CarlSeibert Posted October 7, 2009 Report Posted October 7, 2009 Hifiman HE-5 Orthodynamic Headphones - Head-Fi: Covering Headphones, Earphones and Portable Audio
Dusty Chalk Posted October 7, 2009 Report Posted October 7, 2009 Sale price? Think I'll wait and see, though I am interested.
Edwood Posted October 7, 2009 Report Posted October 7, 2009 Yeah, I'm 0 - 2 on early adopting. I'm sick and tired of return shipping new stuff right after I get them. Going to wait on this one.
mypasswordis Posted October 7, 2009 Report Posted October 7, 2009 Anyone think the driver is still only 4 ohms with a series resistance? And I wonder what's better, velour or the Denon pads.
jinp6301 Posted October 7, 2009 Report Posted October 7, 2009 Sale price? Think I'll wait and see, though I am interested. As with most of Fang's stuff, the price will probably go up after the pre-order
Smeggy Posted October 7, 2009 Report Posted October 7, 2009 he did say the drivers were 32 ohm native. I'd like a set but will wait on these as well.
CarlSeibert Posted October 8, 2009 Author Report Posted October 8, 2009 Hmmm. I'm more or less in wait and see, er, hear mode, too. Although I really liked them at CanJam. They reminded me of my planar speakers. Maybe. How much money is in my PayPal account?.......
Wmcmanus Posted October 8, 2009 Report Posted October 8, 2009 Ordered! Thanks for the head's up. Aaron (immtbiker) has been listening to them and has been quite impressed, so I figured it would be worth giving them a whirl.
K3cT Posted October 8, 2009 Report Posted October 8, 2009 I saw the RMAF impression thread in the other place and they look awfully bulky. How is the comfort of these HE-5s?
penger Posted October 8, 2009 Report Posted October 8, 2009 I'm tempted to get these... headband seems smaller than that on the LCD2 proto which will hopefully give a better fit for my narrowish head. Hrm...
mrarroyo Posted October 9, 2009 Report Posted October 9, 2009 Ordered! Thanks for the head's up. Aaron (immtbiker) has been listening to them and has been quite impressed, so I figured it would be worth giving them a whirl. Aaron and I have exchange PM's on this can and as you indicated he really likes them. JP#'s also posted positive impressions at Head Fi.
boomana Posted October 9, 2009 Report Posted October 9, 2009 I quite liked them at CanJam and per other reports, improvements have been made, though I have no idea what that means. I'm looking forward to hearing them. K3cT, I found the CanJam pair to be quite comfy, not as bulky or heavy as my HF2s.
jinp6301 Posted October 9, 2009 Report Posted October 9, 2009 The bare foam hurt my head like crazy but supposedly thats been fixed

boomana Posted October 9, 2009 Report Posted October 9, 2009 (edited) Didn't listen long enough and had listened to too much that day to begin to make a comparison. Most headphones don't spark my interest, and these did. That much I remember. I would like to hear them again. Edited October 9, 2009 by boomana
Hens Posted October 9, 2009 Report Posted October 9, 2009 Over on headfi Fang has stated that the finalised driver is "around 30ohm" and not 4. I'd be keen to try them, but can't justify buying another amp to drive them.

I suppose if I could live with the HF2, I will do just fine with this HE-5.
CarlSeibert Posted October 10, 2009 Author Report Posted October 10, 2009 I'd be keen to try them, but can't justify buying another amp to drive them. Indeed. "Can they be driven with [whatever amp we might have]?" is the question for me.
HeadphoneAddict Posted October 10, 2009 Report Posted October 10, 2009 I quite liked them at CanJam and per other reports, improvements have been made, though I have no idea what that means. I'm looking forward to hearing them. K3cT, I found the CanJam pair to be quite comfy, not as bulky or heavy as my HF2s. One big improvement was in the bass, there is much better impact - with the EF1 and Black Eyes Peas the bass is almost visceral. They also seem to play louder with the EF1 amp than they could at CanJam, maybe because the 28-30 ohm load is easier for the amp to supply enough current. The earpads are nicer velour, like those off the Proline 2500 or K702. I thought the pads were a bit stiff and hard, but should soften up with some use. If they used the JMoney leather pads like the LCD-2 that would be nice.
aRc Posted October 10, 2009 Report Posted October 10, 2009 Ordered! Thanks for the Heads-up! I liked them at CanJam and can wrap my head around the changes to the pads etc.!
The Monkey Posted October 10, 2009 Report Posted October 10, 2009 How do they compare to the O2 mk1? Tell me now.
jp11801 Posted October 10, 2009 Report Posted October 10, 2009 :asshat:they are infinitely superior as the O2 in either mkl or mkll suck balls:asshat: seriously I really like them but slightly prefer the Audeze from my very unscientific listening with different amps and sources at RMAF
mypasswordis Posted October 10, 2009 Report Posted October 10, 2009 Any specifics as to why you prefer the LCD2?
jp11801 Posted October 11, 2009 Report Posted October 11, 2009 Any specifics as to why you prefer the LCD2? it had a faster sound to me and had a tone that was slightly lighter than the hifiman. This is more a function of my personal preference as both are outstanding and provide a Maggie experience in a headphone. I could see many people liking Fang's over the LCD2 like a grado and senn preference thing.
