guzziguy Posted October 1, 2009 Report Posted October 1, 2009 Tomorrow, I'm flying to Philadelphia and then driving up to Scranton, PA for my niece's wedding this weekend. I don't know the area at all. I'd appreciate any suggestions for interesting things to do in the area. Thanks in advance for your help. Quote
NoValidTitle Posted October 1, 2009 Report Posted October 1, 2009 Get yourself a real cheese steak while in the city. Quote
jinp6301 Posted October 1, 2009 Report Posted October 1, 2009 Um, its Scranton. Theres really nothing to do there. Unless you like the Office, then you can do the "The Office" Tour of Scranton Quote
guzziguy Posted October 1, 2009 Author Report Posted October 1, 2009 Get yourself a real cheese steak while in the city. We're going to Le Bec-Fin Monday evening. Will that do? If not, could please suggest a source or two in that area for a real cheese steak? Um, its Scranton. Theres really nothing to do there. Unless you like the Office, then you can do the "The Office" Tour of Scranton That's what I was afraid of. I haven't followed "The Office" at all, so the tour will probably be meaningless for me. Can't say I've ever had a cheese steak at Le Ben-Fin but a few of the top places would be Pats, Geno's, Jim's and Tony Luke's. Quote
tyrion Posted October 1, 2009 Report Posted October 1, 2009 Go to Monk's in Philly. It's a great beer bar. Quote
Dusty Chalk Posted October 1, 2009 Report Posted October 1, 2009 linky I was just in Philadelphia, and thoroughly enjoyed the Eastern State Penitentiary (famous for being one of the first real jails designed to instill penitence), but I don't know if it's worth taking 5 hours out of your day to do. I'd avoid Centralia. Quote
Augsburger Posted October 1, 2009 Report Posted October 1, 2009 Aren't the Beaujolais Nouveau out now? I think it is that time of year, hit a wine bar in Philly. Quote
grawk Posted October 1, 2009 Report Posted October 1, 2009 Uhm, scranton. You can get mugged in scranton. Hrm, saturday the baby pens might have a game, but I'm not sure if it's at home or not. I'm about 2.5 hrs south of there. I went to high school in wilkes barre, and from my memory, the thing to do was to rent porn and drink beer. Quote

I would also add Rick's to that list. Guzzi, are you still in Philly? If you're a foodie, you will want to check out Reading Terminal Market. It is also right next to Chinatown if you are into Asian food at all. If you're into shopping, you can check out the Rittenhouse Square area (west of Broad Street). Old City is also a great area to explore towards the eastern edge of the city. There are also several museums towards the Art Museum area. Quote
guzziguy Posted October 7, 2009 Author Report Posted October 7, 2009 Nope. I was in Philly until 7:45 this morning (EDT). Now I'm home again. Thanks for the suggestions though. Quote
