swt61 Posted October 2, 2009 Report Posted October 2, 2009 (edited) Why not have both? Excellent point. Metallic lettering inlaid into the wood? Sounds good to me Fitz and I both have upcoming wooden cases with inlayed aluminum faceplates. It's the latest rage. Edited October 2, 2009 by swt61
Beefy Posted October 2, 2009 Report Posted October 2, 2009 I don't have any info about the ESS sabre chip (datasheets are not public, subject to NDA, which really rubs me wrong). But if the chip supports volume control via an I2C serial bus, then yes, you could do it. As for any of the other features you mention, I don't know what info is available on that board, so you'll have to do some research on your own. Some additional hardware may be required. Yeah, I kind of figured it would work, but I forgot about the NDA Time to do some digging If anybody wants the ES9008 datasheet, PM me, and i might be able to point you in the right direction

morphsci Posted October 2, 2009 Report Posted October 2, 2009 If anybody wants the ES9008 datasheet, PM me, and i might be able to point you in the right direction If you could point toward the ES9018 data sheet that would be even better.
Beefy Posted October 2, 2009 Report Posted October 2, 2009 If you could point toward the ES9018 data sheet that would be even better. I'm not that lucky, sorry
manaox2 Posted October 2, 2009 Report Posted October 2, 2009 BTW, hasn't Russell been releasing his arduino source code for controlling the Buffalo and Opus through i2c as he develops his chip? I'm going to go find it again quickly. EDIT: maybe not. GLT has the Opus code (right side panel) and tutorial on his blog: http://hifiduino.blogspot.com/2009/05/arduino-controller-dac.html
linuxworks Posted October 2, 2009 Report Posted October 2, 2009 yes, glt has done some work on the TP dac kits. he seems very interested and motivated toward that I share the same viwe as AMB on this; the NDA stuff rubs me the wrong way and so I won't be spending any time on the ESS chip. it may be a nice chip (never heard one, myself) but locking up the specs (and parts) is not something I agree with.
Grahame Posted October 7, 2009 Report Posted October 7, 2009 Very nice, indeed. I trust this will be on display at Burning Amp? The Burning Amp - Diy Festival
