jantze Posted September 24, 2009 Report Posted September 24, 2009 So, I have 4 X Beta 22 Amp board kit + 2 X Sigma 22 Power Supply kit from Glass Jar Audio in a two HI-FI2000 slim line 2U case with aluminum top and base plate. My idea is to use 100mA quiescent current to keep the temperature a bit lower, but should I drill holes to those base plates? Would it actually help to keep those temperatures lower with those covers? Or should I just order more vented custom aluminum covers from Modushop? Cases: Top and base plate:
Guest sachu Posted September 24, 2009 Report Posted September 24, 2009 I know many will recommend you drill more holes in the base plates and/or the top plates. IMO if you can get two sets of vents on the top plate on either end to set some kind of convection air current going, I think that is all you will need in addition to the current base plate you have. Then again I have never built a B22 so more experienced folk in that area will undoubtedly comment. nice looking amp btw.
n_maher Posted September 24, 2009 Report Posted September 24, 2009 Great looking build! I agree that more ventilation would be a good thing. In the mean time buy a infrared thermometer and check the temps from time to time.
Pars Posted September 24, 2009 Report Posted September 24, 2009 Nice looking cases. Not to pull this off topic too much (oh wait! this is HeadCase ) How do you order with aluminum top and bottom from Modushop? Do you just have to buy the case as is and add the top and bottom, or can you get them to substitute? Seems a waste of material to get 2 tops and bottoms.
jantze Posted September 24, 2009 Author Report Posted September 24, 2009 Here you go FAIL! You order your slim line case + two slim line covers: Here you go with proper covers. How do you order with aluminum top and bottom from Modushop? Do you just have to buy the case as is and add the top and bottom, or can you get them to substitute? Seems a waste of material to get 2 tops and bottoms. I guess those metal versions of top and bottom are so cheap, plus they are quite light weight, that they just ship them anyway. Does anyone have any other opinion about the holes vs. custom covers?
Spiug31 Posted September 24, 2009 Report Posted September 24, 2009 Does anyone have any other opinion about the holes vs. custom covers? where will your heatsinks be within the case ? holes +/or grill vents above these would seem an obvious recomendation. p.s. the case fronts look good
jantze Posted September 25, 2009 Author Report Posted September 25, 2009 I'll skip drilling those holes. Next up is Modushop customization. Has anyone ordered simple custom work done by Modushop? I'm thinking something as simple as this, since I don't trust that they could do any proper custom work (custom 3mm aluminum cover): What do you guys think about that cover?
Guest sachu Posted September 25, 2009 Report Posted September 25, 2009 That panel is in line with what I meant in my post.
Guest sachu Posted September 25, 2009 Report Posted September 25, 2009 That panel is in line with what I meant in my post and is very much like my top plate design here.
jantze Posted September 25, 2009 Author Report Posted September 25, 2009 That panel is in line with what I meant in my post and is very much like my top plate design here. Hmm, I like that design. I guess I could do something similar, too Now I only have to decide which design I like more Thanks!
Elephas Posted September 25, 2009 Report Posted September 25, 2009 FAIL! Hahahahaha! I like jantze. The slim line casing looks great.
John E Woven Posted September 25, 2009 Report Posted September 25, 2009 Beautiful B22 you have there. How about some pictures of the innards?
jantze Posted September 25, 2009 Author Report Posted September 25, 2009 Beautiful B22 you have there. How about some pictures of the innards? I'll post some pics when it's done. More cover options.
n_maher Posted September 25, 2009 Report Posted September 25, 2009 Plan on paying at least $1/vent hole at least from places like FPE and Cam-Expert. They are not cheap to do.
swt61 Posted September 25, 2009 Report Posted September 25, 2009 Disregarding Nate's comment, I very much like the last one. Taking Nate's comment to heart, I like the middle one. Me, I'm an all or nothing guy usually, so I'd spend the money for the one I found most pleasing. Very nice looking build thus far!
Sherwood Posted September 25, 2009 Report Posted September 25, 2009 Plan on paying at least $1/vent hole at least from places like FPE and Cam-Expert. They are not cheap to do. If I'm gonna pay $50 for holes, they'd better come with a disease.
n_maher Posted September 25, 2009 Report Posted September 25, 2009 If I'm gonna pay $50 for holes, they'd better come with a disease. Wait, you'd pay more for holes if the come with disease? I think you have that backwards my friend.
postjack Posted September 25, 2009 Report Posted September 25, 2009 If I'm gonna pay $50 for holes, they'd better come with a disease. hell yeah a disease for my penis! $50 disease from sex.

I'm kind of the first version guy, but I understand if you like it your way
jantze Posted September 26, 2009 Author Report Posted September 26, 2009 If I'm gonna pay $50 for holes, they'd better come with a disease. I've spent my share abroad in hospitals, but if you have a mission, they just can't keep you in. I don't give a shit, since I'm the only one with a proper disease. (reading disease) and I'm pretty sure most of the active members share the same ADVANTAGE Need MOAR comments, don't be shy. I will trash you down liek a tomatoo, but atleast someone will enjoy it = (insert funny face here)
jantze Posted September 26, 2009 Author Report Posted September 26, 2009 Hahahahaha! I like jantze. The slim line casing looks great. Finally someone likes my stupid stuff. I'll try to keep my posts down a bit more. Santa? Dude are you there old fart?
jantze Posted September 26, 2009 Author Report Posted September 26, 2009 Wait, you'd pay more for holes if the come with disease? I think you have that backwards my friend. My "the come" is pretty boring custom made hand job, but if you guys have any opinions on those panels, I would(will) appreciate that a lot. 'Till laters.
manaox2 Posted September 26, 2009 Report Posted September 26, 2009 I feel like someone might have accidentally struck a chord with you or I missed something, maybe something lost in translation (certain that everyone is friendly joking, not anything against you yourself). Your panels all look nice to me. Are you alright? *serious*

I guess I have a weird humor when I'm pissed drunk and it's 5AM I think I'm ordering that first panel, thanks everyone. Now I'll go and enjoy my hangover.
