Jim Carroll, poet and punk, passed away Friday at the age of 60. Probably most famous for "The Basketball Diaries", I'll remember him for the "Catholic Boy" album - a sweet taste of late 70's NYC punk.

"They were all my friends, and they died."

That's sad and not.

I hung out with him a bit at a two-week writing program at a Buddhist college back in 83 (?) 84 (?). Back then, he was coked up, spazzed out, and a bit of a drama queen diva. I did like Catholic Boy a lot, and Basketball Diaries was great back in the day. He was definitely a unique, interesting, and very talented guy that kinda self-destructed like so many. I haven't even thought about him in years. RIP, Jim.

Didn't even know about this until today. I got to met him briefly in the mid-80's as well, he still seemed pretty much "destructed" then.

But the news of his passing seemed to hit a little harder and sadder than some of the recent celebs' deaths. Not sure why.....
